Research Fellow - Transport economics and appraisal
Fixed term for 3 years
Job sharing arrangements can be considered
This role provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to two large, multi-disciplinary projects funded by the European Commission (Horizon 2020) and EPSRC in the economic appraisal and transport economics area. The projects are focussed on the search for technical innovations in rail infrastructure that stimulate productivity improvements and more widely deliver an overall net benefit to society, taking account of all the relevant costs and benefits. These projects, and the wider body of research conducted by the Institute for Transport Studies (ITS) in these areas, offer an exciting opportunity to be involved in cutting edge research in the areas of economic appraisal, econometric cost modelling, regulation and incentives, the valuation of benefits to users of transport, and modelling of the wider economic effects of transport investments.
We are looking for a committed, highly motivated and innovative individual with strong economics/analytical skills to undertake these two projects. You will be expected to make a full contribution to the vibrant Economics and Discrete Choice Group. You will join a team of leading international researchers at Leeds carrying out innovative research in transport economics (for example, economic appraisal and modelling of wider economic effects; cost, efficiency and demand modelling and valuation; economic regulation; choice modelling). You will contribute to the joint academic activities at Leeds including reading groups, Summer Schools, and working with international visitors.
Your qualifications and experience will include a solid Honours and Master's degree followed by: either a PhD (or be close to obtaining) in a relevant related quantitative discipline such as economics, business or transport studies (or potentially engineering /mathematics); or relevant work experience in that area, for example in a public sector body or consultancy. Experience in the collection and analysis of economic data, and a willingness to learn about the transport sector, relevant technical innovations and their economic impact is essential. In addition, experience (research or consultancy) in transport economics, economic appraisal and/or modelling is desirable.
