Associate Market Analyst - International Trade Centre UNCTAD-WTO

ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING

The Market Analysis and Research Section (MAR) has developed and is continuously evolving a set of market analysis tools including Trade map, and Market Access Map among others and also customizes these tools for specific regions to facilitate greater intra-regional trade and integration. These are made available to trade Support Institutions (TSIs) and the business community (particularly SMEs) as well as to research and consultancy organisations, free of charge for users from developing counties. In addition, MAR has developed methodologies for focused studies on such areas as export potential assessment, as well as analytical outputs and surveys on such areas as non-tariff measures. MAR also delivers capacity building services for beneficiaries in using its tools and analysis methodologies in support of strategic and operational trade related decisions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is designed to support market analysis tools related projects and capacity building related to trade related analysis. The expected outputs for this position are:

• Take increasing responsibility and technically support the design and implementation of studies and market analysis tools projects.
• Analyze trade and market access data in the context of MAR's team work on issues related to international trade and market access.
• Conduct reviews of the data of countries or sectors under review.
• Prepare tables and graphs for reports, customized web tools or mentoring activities.
• Support SAS processing of data and the calculation of indicators and liaise with web developers concerning customized internet tools.
• Contribute to training activities (e.g. provide background information, propose training modules) and participate at training events (in Geneva and abroad).

Under the guidance of the first level supervisor, Senior Market Analyst, the incumbent will:

• Provide project management for ongoing studies and customized tools projects assuring they are done on time and with the required quality;
• Work cooperatively with teams within MAR and with outside counterparts as needed;
• Work with clients to understand their needs and developing tailored tools and studies programs in line with those needs;
• Contribute to diverse market intelligence projects to completion such as multiple workshop training programs;
• Solve problems to keep studies and programs moving forward and delivery on time as needed,
• Perform other tasks as required.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

EDUCATION: University degree in international economics or statistics and computing or a closely related field. Note: A candidate possessing an advanced degree in international economics or statistics and computing or a closely related field may be accepted with a total of only two years of professional experience in statistics, quantitative market research, international trade, preferably at the international level, as well as in the preparation of economic report and studies.

WORK EXPERIENCE: A minimum of four years of professional experience in statistics, quantitative market research, international trade, preferably at the international level, as well as in the preparation of economic report and studies.

LANGUAGES: Advanced knowledge of English with a working knowledge of French or Spanish. Knowledge of other UN official languages is an asset.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Knowledge on issues regarding international trade, market access and competitiveness.
• Ability to work reliably and independently with minimum supervision.
• Strong analytical and presentation skills.
• Proven capability to write clear and concise project documents and reports.
• Good problem-solving skills in order to make recommendations on the selection of indicators, databases, methodologies and presentation of data and related analysis outputs through tools and studies.
• Ability to contribute to analytical and technical solutions in the area of quantitative market research.

TERMS OF SERVICEAppointments with ITC are service-limited to this organization. The conditions of service are governed by the United Nations Staff Rules and Regulations. This is a fixed term appointment.

INDICATIVE ANNUAL SALARY AT THE P-2 LEVEL

Annual Salary (net of tax) Starting from 47,292US$, with annual increments subject to performance. Post Adjustment In addition to the above annual salary a monthly post adjustment is paid. The rate as at June 2015 is 93.4% of the monthly salary. This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
