Shelter Centre is currently looking to recruit project assistant Architects and/or Researchers to assist in our small but dynamic NGO, which itself plays a central role in global humanitarian response.
Shelter Centre offers an ideal opportunity to gain a high level overview of how the humanitarian sector works with an insight into how the large international organisations operate. After their internship at Shelter Centre, many project assistants have gone on to work for humanitarian agencies, including CARE International, Cordaid, DFID, IOM, Oxfam and UNHCR.
Responsibilities will include:
- Primary and secondary research for evaluation of the shelter sector
- Data analysis and report writing
- Working with other interns in the production and desktop publishing of guidelines and other external documents
- Working with graphic design team to ensure consistency of content and design concepts
Essential Skills:
- University degree or equivalent in architecture or humanitarian studies
- Excellent computer skills
- Excellent research skills
- Able to grasp difficult concepts and create a visual representation
- Willingness to work with minimum supervision, independently, as well as to function as a member of a team
- Strong interest in humanitarian work
- Excellent English skills (Minimum C1 proficiency)
Desirable:
- Immediate availability
- Good interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively at all levels
- Adaptable and flexible to undertake various and urgent tasks
- Methodical and attentive to details
- Ability to work independently and/or project management skills
- Technical expertise in transitional settlements and shelter, town planning, architecture and/or construction would be an asset
- Sense of humour
