Do you have the
skills to lead a dynamic young organisation to a whole new level? Are
you interested in helping grass-roots organisations in Africa increase
their impact – creating new, sustainable opportunities that really do
lift people out of poverty, for good? Molly’s Network is a non-profit
organisation registered in Tanzania, supported by a sister charity in
the UK. In little more than eighteen months, we’ve established
Tanzania’s first charity accreditation scheme, started to build an
active database of effective charitable organisations working in tough
situations on the ground, and already begun to connect them to the funds
they need to realise more of their amazing potential.
We’re now looking for a committed professional with the vision and energy to lead Molly’s Network in its next phase of development. The role will require a passion for encouraging individual and corporate philanthropy, connecting resources to groups and organizations working with people in real need in Tanzania, and ultimately across East Africa as a whole. It calls for dedicated systems management and attention to detail, but the ability to think outside the box and break new ground. The potential for making an impact is enormous, as no doubt are the challenges along the way.
Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Conditions: Full time, 2 year contract. Travel within the country will be required periodically.
Responsible to: Board of Directors, based in Dar es Salaam
Responsible for: Initially one programme officer (to be hired by you), plus a small team of skilled volunteers
Salary: $30,000 to $36,000 pa (dependent on experience)
Who are we looking for?
An individual who is seeking a new challenge, an experienced manager, someone who works easily with others, ready to lead and able to inspire confidence, can relate to the needs of the poor and marginalized – and also deal with donors and executives of all levels, committed to sustainable solutions for Africa, has exemplary written and presentation skills, understands the organisational importance of sound systems and structure, a passion for driving projects forward, uses their own initiative, a lateral thinker.
You will have an excellent track record of managing and expanding a business or non-profit organisation.
Knowledge of the development sector is of course important and Africa experience would certainly be a huge asset. However, we will consider any candidate that can demonstrate their aptitude for the role, relevant transferable skills and a passion for the vision of Molly’s Network.
What will we ask of you?
• To take responsibility for efficiently managing all aspects of this small but growing organisation
• A commitment to building the professionalism and sustainability of grass-roots organisations in Tanzania
• Insight in identifying the priorities and needs of existing and potential members of Molly’s Network – and perception in spotting synergies to donors and supporters
• To ensure sound financial management of Molly’s Network, including funds managed on behalf of our donors
• To prepare and monitor organizational budgets and plans
• To mobilise and identify new sources of income drawing on the skills, advice and networks of non-Executive Directors, Trustees in the UK and keen supporters in Tanzania and the US
• Pitching to partners, both face to face and in writing
• The ability to build long lasting mutually beneficial relationships with all our partners
• To further develop our systems and processes, maximising impact for accredited members and donors
What can you expect from us?
A unique and never dull working environment, an enthusiastic and collaborative team of supporters, of course some leave to enjoy the beauty of Tanzania, a work permit if needed, no apologies for the Dar es Salaam traffic.
If these opportunities and challenges sound appealing, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your CV with a covering letter by email to info@mollysnetwork.org clearly marked ED Recruitment in the subject line. Deadline for submission is 21 January 2013. Or if you would prefer an informal discussion prior to applying, please drop us an email with a telephone number or skype name and one of us will give you a call.
