The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are currently seeking qualified candidates to replenish our Engineers Technical Roster for consultancy and project based positions in the organization’s offices worldwide. Engineers may be requested to undertake positions in any of the locations in which WFP has operations.

The following upcoming positions may be filled from the Technical Roster:
Construction Manager (Project), Pakistan
WFP is in the process of completing a project comprising the construction of a number of humanitarian response facilities throughout Pakistan. The Construction Manager will be responsible for the overall management and co-ordination of this project. The project is structured in a number of phases with multiple contracts on-going concurrently.
Engineer (Project), Ghana
WFP intends to construct a facility that includes offices, warehouses and training centre in support of Humanitarian Response Depot (HRD) operations worldwide. The facility is located in Accra, Ghana. The Engineer will be responsible for monitoring and supervising the construction works and handover phase.
Engineer (Projects), Somalia
WFP intends to construct a variety of facilities including offices, warehouses and accommodation in support of WFP operation in Somalia. The Engineer will be responsible for the implementation of these projects through all stages from inception, assessment and budgeting thought design, construction and handover.
Lead Engineer (Projects), Afghanistan
WFP intends to construct a variety of facilities including warehouses in support of WFP operation in Afghanistan. The Lead Engineer will be responsible for co-ordinating the implementation of these projects through all stages from inception, assessment and budgeting thought design, construction and handover.
Lead Engineer (Projects), South Sudan
WFP intends to construct a variety of facilities including offices, warehouses, airstrips and accommodation in support of WFP operation in South Sudan. The Lead Engineer will be responsible for co-ordinating the implementation of these projects through all stages from inception, assessment and budgeting thought design, construction and handover.
Services Engineer (Electrical/Mechanical), Italy
The Engineering Team of the WFP is responsible to co-ordinate, design, manage and supervise the construction activities of WFP worldwide. The team is based in Rome (WFP Headquarters) and is currently seeking for an electrical or mechanical Engineer to be included in the work group.
Qualifications & Experience Required
Education:
- University degree in Engineering or a related field;
- Accreditation as ‘Professional’ or ‘Chartered Engineer’ status from an internationally recognised professional association is an asset.
Experience:
- At least five years of relevant professional experience in engineering with greater independence and decision making authority;
- Experience in using international forms of contract, managing multiple service providers, liaising with project stakeholders, project fund and programme management;
- Experience in working in international development projects and in managing multidisciplinary engineering teams is highly desirable;
- Previous working experience with the UN or NGO community is an asset.
Technical Skills & Knowledge:
- Training and/or experience utilising computers, including word processing, spreadsheet and other standard WFP software packages and systems;
- Knowledge of specialist engineering software packages is desirable (including AutoCAD software);
- Knowledge of public procurement procedures is an advantage.
Language:
- Working knowledge (proficiency/level C) of English;
- Proficiency in language of the region/country is highly desirable.
