Director, Site and Facilities Operations, Arusha - Tanzania

Introduction

​The Aga Khan University (AKU), an international university and a major component of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is committed to excellence in education, research and service. AKU is currently planning a major expansion of its existing work in East Africa, in the fields of medical, nursing and teacher education. Planning is also underway for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in East Africa to be located in Arusha (AKU – FAS, EA) which will constitute the Principal Campus, and aims to be an innovative, responsive, accessible and world-class institution, partnering with major international academic institutions. It will pay special attention to the creation and application of knowledge. To facilitate this expansion, AKU has identified and acquired a site in Arusha Tanzania and is seeking to recruit an appropriately qualified individual as Director, Site and Facilities Operations.

Responsibilities

​Reporting to the Project Director, Facilities Planning, East Africa, the Director, Site and Facilities Operations, will be responsible for all aspects of the site and the infrastructure there in. Key responsibilities will include: Ensuring adequate security, well-coordinated reforestation and appropriate maintenance and up gradation of all infrastructures Overseeing the establishment of effective working relationships with designated stakeholders. Developing, monitoring and reviewing all site related policies and standard operating procedures including the strategic development and management of all policies and procedures relating to supply chain management. In consultation with other stakeholders, support the budgeting process and oversee implementation and monitoring of budgets based on the project schedules.

Requirements

​Bachelor’s degree in Engineering At least 20 years progressive leadership and project management experience. Good knowledge of building, construction and mechanical and electrical plants. Prior experience handling budgets and managing safety and security is a requisite. Exceptional interpersonal skills with excellent organizational skills Ability to work with a fast-moving team in a goal-oriented environment. Must be fluent in Kiswahili and English.
