The purpose of the role is to provide direct support to the VP: Mining in the implementation of a mining strategy across Continental Africa Region, to achieve the optimum performance of the Region's assets.
ACCOUNTABILITIES & AUTHORITIES:
Safety:
- Identify safety risks within the mining function and resolve emerging issues, escalate issues and safety risks that impact other areas of the business.
- Provide the safe mining standards for a safe working environment.
Stabilisation & Optimisation - Mining Operational Support:
- Manages a number of interdependent processes e.g. blasting and balance the demands of different priorities and situations to achieving planned outputs.
- Generates innovative mining solutions which continuously improve the performance of existing assets, products, services or processes for adequate volumes of ore availability for metallurgical processing to obtain competitive results in safety, cost and production.
- Provide technical specialist advice to the Business Units in terms of input into the Mining plans and Integrated Operating Model to product P2V and Budget.
- Develop and implement mining guidelines, standards, processes and systems with input from the Business Units which is aligned with the Corporate policy and standards.
- Ensures the effective co-ordination of expertise and experience both within and across team boundaries to achieve organizational objectives.
- Provide technical input to the development of capital expenditure plans.
Risk Management:
- Identification and management of risks within area of accountability and monitor them implementation of mitigating action plans.
Compliance:
- Take all necessary actions to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, legislated regulations, policies, work standards, and governance requirements in area of accountability.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- A recognised tertiary qualification in mining, e.g. BSc (or BEng) Mining or Civil Engineering Degree
- A Certifidate of Competency in mining e.g. Mine Managers Certificate would be an advantage
- A Minimum of 8 to 10 years relevant post graduate mining experience of which 3 to 5 years should be in a managerial position
- Management of a Mining Contractor
- Must have detailed knowledge of:
- Large open pit mining operations e.g. load, haul, drill, blast;
- Strategic and business open pit mine planning processes and financial models;
- Heavy mining equipment practices e.g. applications and operatinal constraints;
- Project management;
- Mine software systems e.g. Datamine, Whittle, Xpac and Xeras;
- Compiling mining contracts
