We don't know when or where the next humanitarian emergency will hit. But we do know we'll be prepared for it. Humanitarian Support Personnel (HSPs) are a pool of professionals that ensure Oxfam has the management, technical and logistical capacity to respond rapidly and establish a presence, anywhere in the world. And using your HR expertise to strengthen our response to major crises, you'll be among the first on the ground.
The role Working wherever you're most needed - typically on three to six month projects - you'll provide essential HR advice to senior managers in-country. Covering everything from grievance policy to performance management, you'll not only support the programme management team, you'll also see new recruits through the employment cycle. And while that might mean leading an existing HR project team, there'll also be times when you have to perform these duties independently in an emergency situation. Where we have no presence in a country you'll be one of the first people there, laying the groundwork that allows us to respond as quickly as possible and save as many lives as we can. What's more, you'll help to make sure we're always prepared to act in a humanitarian emergency, by carrying out research and planning when you're not in the field.
What we're looking for You'll be HR qualified with a solid background dealing with the full scope of HR issues, plus ideally experience of humanitarian or development work, probably gained in an NGO. Confident working independently, you'll be an innovative problem solver, planning and organising to achieve strategic goals in a tight timeframe. What's more, with your professional experience and industry knowledge, you'll have no problem motivating and coaching others, building strong relationships in difficult situations and managing a team. And while you'll need practical IT and interpersonal skills, it's absolutely essential that you can stay calm and work well under pressure. Naturally you'll need to be extremely flexible, ready to travel across the world at a moment's notice to work on the front line and get help to those who need it most. Which means excellent communication skills ideally in either French, Spanish or Portuguese, as well as fluent English, would be an advantage.
