The University of Central Asia (UCA) was founded in 2000 by the governments of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan, and His Highness the Aga Khan to foster the economic and social development of Central Asia, and especially its vast mountain regions. It is the world’s first internationally chartered institution of higher education. The International Treaty and Charter establishing this secular and private University was signed by the Presidents of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan ratified by the respective parliaments, and registered with the United Nations. The Central Administration is in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic.

UCA is seeking to recruit a Senior Mechanical/Electrical Engineer who will be based at Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, and who will report to UCA’s Project Director.

Position Objectives:
The successful candidate will be required during the design phases of the project to carry out ongoing reviews/assessments of all mechanical/electrical/ heating/ventilation engineering aspects of designs, drawings and specifications prepared by UCA’s architects and consulting engineers to ensure that these are technically appropriate and acceptable and that they are cost effective.

During the construction phases the successful candidate will be required to monitor all quality control, scheduling, costing, and safety aspects of the construction works as they are carried out on the sites. This will entail frequent visits to, and short stays at, the sites of the three university campuses and will involve close liaison and co-ordination with the UCA Resident Project Manager and the site personnel.

Position Requirements:
A chartered mechanical or electrical engineer with at least 10 years relevant experience in the design and construction of educational and residential facilities/buildings including associated mechanical, electrical, heating and ventilation installations together with infrastructure works including mechanical, electrical and communication services, water/sewage treatment works, power/heat generation plants and waste handling facilities.

Previous experience of working in a CIS country together with proficiency in spoken and/or written Russian would be highly preferable.
