Technical Officer; Infection Prevention and Control - PATH

PATH is collaborating with the Tanzania Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Zanzibar Ministry of Health, National and Zanzibar TB and Leprosy Programs(NTLP & ZTLP), National and Zanzibar AIDS Control Programs, and Association of Private Health Facilities of Tanzania to support a coordinated public and private sector response to TB and HIV with support and funding through USAID and Prsident's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)

PATH is seeking an Infection Prevention and Control Technical Officer based in our Dar es Salaam office to lead PATH's efforts in improving infection control practices in health facilities and congregate settings. The IPC technical officer will report to PATH TB Project Director and will oversee the implementatation of improved IPC practices in health facilities and congregate settings in eight regions in Tanzania

Specific responsibilities include:

1. Build regional and district staff capacity and provide training to staff on IPC practices, including IPC planning, implementation, and monitoring
2. Support coordination and monitor implementation of project activities related to infection prevention and control.
3. Provide Technical support Tanzania MOHSW and Zanzibar MOH on IPC
4. Maintain close communication with other technical partners implementing IPC activities and ensure coordination at all levels.
5. Conduct technical supervisory visits to PATH supported districts and provide feedback to all levels related to IPC practices
6. Develop and review project work plans, track project progress, and prepare reports on deliverables.
7. Represent project in technical working groups and meetings with other donors.
8. Contribute to semi-annual and annual reports and other required donor deliverables.
9. Work with project staff to develop journal articles, presentations, and posters to promote project.
10. Model effective leadership, including the principles of effective collaborative partnerships, and ensure timely completion of project deliverables.
11. Other tasks as assigned.

Required Skills

• Ability to conduct trainings and build capacity of others in areas related to Infection Prevention Control(IPC)
• Ability to conduct an infection control assessment of a health facility, including assessment of administrative, environmental, and personal controls, and community measures, identification of gaps and recommendations for specific interventions and research.
• Demonstrated ability to multitask and maintain schedules for deliverables with excellent attention to detail.
• Exemplary interpersonal skills to facilitate relations with the Government and local partners.
• Ability to work in cross-cultural work environment.
• Excellent written and oral communications in English and Kiswahili
• Good computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office programs.
• Excellent organizational, planning, negotiating and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity working with international organizations is preferred.

Required Experience

• MD or Master’s degree in Public Health with five years of relevant experience or equivalent academic degree with experience in TB control.
• Familiarity with comprehensive IPC practices in diverse settings, including hospitals, health centers, community, and congregate settings (ex, prisons)
