VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: InternalAuditor
(Local and International)
The African Union,established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged withspearheading Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development bypromoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples ofAfrica and African States as well as developing a new partnership worldwide.Its Headquarters is located in Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia.
In seeking to achieve this objective, the African Union intends to strengthenits capacity to deliver through, among others, the implementation of a neworganizational structure and the filling of all vacant positions.
The Commission of the African Union invites citizens of Member States to applyfor the below specified position at the Interafrican Bureau for AnimalResources, Nairobi/Kenya.
1- Post title: Internal Auditor
Post level: P2 STEP 5
Unit: Office of Internal Audit
Immediate Supervisor: Director/Head of Mission AU-IBAR
2. Major duties and responsibilities:
a. Analyze, record and test the AU-IBAR’saccounting system and the information it produces.
b. Review the extent of compliance with established policies, plans andprocedures.
c. Ensure that payments are made for the goods and servicesreceived by the AU-IBAR; all collections and receipts are properly accountedfor and any adjustments are authorized properly.
d. Review budget performance with a view to determining whether the auditeehas executed its budget within the authorized limits.
e. Examine whether the system of Internal Control is adequate for achieving management’s objectives in an efficient and orderlymanner and whether the established procedures are being properlyfollowed.
f. Ensure whetherthe information available to management is sound and adequate for proper control and decision-making.
g. Identify and report to the accountable management actual or potential weakness in control where it exists, and recommend feasible ways of remedy.
h. Recommend waysof improving the economy, efficiency and effectiveness of operations based upon findings from an impartial and objective examination.
i. Prepare working papers for review. Develop and discuss findings, agree on recommendations and timelines for corrective action with responsible officer of operationsand draft audit/assignment reports.
j. To perform any other duty as may be assigned.
3. Educational Qualifications: Candidates must have at leasta Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance Management or Commerce. A professional qualification in Accountingsuch as CPA, CA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent from a recognized Institution will be an added advantage.
4. Work experience: Candidatesmust have at least 5 years of relevant working experience in Accounting or FinancialManagement of which at least
3 years should be at lower management level.Experience working with recognized auditing firms as well as project auditsfunded by donors will be an added advantage.
5. Other relevantskills
- Computer literacy;
- Working knowledge of data analysis;
- Management experience, excellent interpersonal skills and ability to organize and motivate others and to work in amulti-culturalenvironment;
- Excellent drafting and reporting skills;
- Good communication and negotiating skills;
- Good planningand organizational skills.
6. Language requirement: Proficiency in one of the AfricanUnion working languages. Knowledge of one or several other working languageswould be an added advantage.
7. Age requirement: candidates preferably be between 25 and 45
years old.
8. Tenure of Appointment: Theappointment will be made on a short term contract for a period of eleven (11) months, of which the first three months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be renewable, subject to satisfactory performanceand availability of funds.

10. Remuneration: Thesalary attached to the position is an annual lump-sum of US$ 67,150.57inclusive of all allowances for internationally recruited staff, and US$ 55,597.21inclusive of all allowances for locally recruited staff.
