ILRI seeks to recruit a Research and Planning Management Officer. Reporting to the Deputy Director General – Research (DDG-R), the successful candidate will support the management and administrative functions of a globally active team of researchers.
Responsibilities include:
- Working closely with the DDG-R and the Director of Institutional Planning (Dir. IP), the position’s primary responsibilities include:
- Coordinate and implement all institute-level donors reporting, including CG Consortium research and strategy reporting, and research information to donor and partners, ensuring quality control and timeliness;
- Serve as Secretary to the ILRI Management and Research Management Committees, including preparation of materials, minuting and reporting of meetings, and ensuring follow up on action points, including communicating with ILRI managers as required to achieve that;
- Support the Dir. IP in developing and implementing the ILRI Implementation Plan, and the development of and use of ILRI’s research management tools;
- Work with Programme Management Officers in strengthening information flows to, from, and among all organizational units under the DDG-R, while recommending and supporting means to improve information flows across Themes within ILRI;
- Maintain databases of ILRI performance indicators and reporting requirements, and implementation plan processes and milestones;
- Assist the DDG-R and Dir. IP in the strategic planning of the Annual Planning Meeting (APM), and preparation of materials for the Programme Committee meeting of the ILRI Board of Trustees, and any other significant programmatic meetings;
- Provide support for institutional committees (such as Risk Management Committee, Ethics Committee), institutional initiatives and new requests as may be required.
Requirements
- A minimum of a Master’s in Business Administration, or a similar postgraduate degree and at least 5 years of relevant work experience;
- Significant experience in project/program management, and in management information systems;
- Work experience in an international NGO or an international organization, and in a multicultural environment;
- Strong communication skills, English language and writing skills;
- Skills and experience in facilitation of meetings;
- Ability to work independently, to be proactive, to take initiative, and to work within a team setting;
- Strong computer skills including management information systems, MS Excel. Experience with MS Access would be strong advantage;
- Excellent attention to details.
Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus and is open to Kenyan nationals only. The position is on a 2-year contract renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding. This position is job level 4A with a starting salary of KES.260,833.00, dependent on qualifications and experience. This is exclusive of other benefits provided by ILRI.
