The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI): The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works at the crossroads of livestock and poverty, bringing high-quality livestock science, communications and capacity building to bear on poverty reduction and sustainable development. ILRI is one of 15 centres supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). ILRI has campuses in Kenya (headquarters) and Ethiopia, with other offices located in other regions of Africa (Mali, Mozambique, and Nigeria) as well as in South Asia (India, Sri Lanka), Southeast Asia (Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam) and East Asia (China).
The Position: ILRI seeks to recruit a Knowledge Sharing and Communications Officer to take on a range of knowledge, communication, web and information management responsibilities. The position is based in our Nairobi office but provides support to ‘global’ ILRI. We seek a dynamic, flexible, innovative multi-tasking individual able to work across diverse digital information and communication spaces.
Responsibilities
- Manage ‘InfoCenter’ space, staff, budgets and services in Nairobi:
- Reference and library services; Corporate repository; Journal and e-resources; Calenders; Information access; Planning, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting;
- Promote and support effective use of information exchange, communication and knowledge sharing tools and approaches by ILRI staff in Nairobi, and beyond.
- Collate and update content on the ILRI website and associated internal communication mechanisms – theme, team, project, and staff information.
- Help facilitate and report on ILRI activities and events – on ILRI and external communication channels and platforms.
- Coordinate information and ‘document’ distribution from Nairobi and maintenance of associated contact management systems.
- Ensure that basic information on ILRI projects and events is updated on the ILRI website and in any related corporate and/or CGIAR project information systems.
- Support internal communication across ILRI projects and teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field;
- Masters degree is an added advantage;
- At least 5 years’ experience in any aspect of information/knowledge management/communications, ideally in a research or science context.
Person specifications
- Excellent people management and interactions;
- Strong information and library management;
- Familiar with web-based knowledge sharing and information services and systems;
- Good event support, reporting, facilitation skills;
- Familiarity with and enthusiasm for social media;
- Excellent writing and communication skills;
- Outgoing, networker/connector of people.
Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus and is open to Kenyan nationals only. The position is on a 2-year contract renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding. This position is job level 3A with a starting salary is KES. 164,833 This is exclusive of other benefits provided by ILRI.
