Our Buzwagi Mining Operations in Tanzania is currently searching for an experienced Chief Mining Engineer for the Mining Department. This position is required to provide technical support to the operating mine and development projects, with particular emphasis on open pit, leadership, plan, organize and control development as well as manage the mining engineering department and associated resources of the Buzwagi operations.
This position reports into the Mining Manager and is worked on a 6/3 week FIFO roster.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Duties include but not limited to:
- Provide leadership to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards that exceed worldwide industry practice and any applicable legislative requirements.
- Collaborate with the all departments to ensure sustained development of a Safe and Healthy Work Environment on the Project Site and within the Communities of contact.
- Direct the activities of the Mine Engineering Department, to assure cost effective and high quality initiatives are taken. Achievement of Zero Property Loss Incidents is considered as a Key Performance Indicator.
- Manage the mining engineering department including administration and personnel duties.
- Provide technical advise to the operating mine on an as required basis, support the regions technical services department, and provide the benefit of specialist open pit mining knowledge.
- Identify opportunities for project improvements and assist the mine personnel to develop implementation plans.
- Identify innovative ideas used previously and assist the mine personnel to apply them to Barrick operations where appropriate.
- Develop, maintain and improve knowledge and expertise in all aspects of mine engineering and mine management.
- Keep abreast of advancing technology as well as new innovative ideas, through the study of publications, attendance of courses and conferences and mine visits.
- Implement the necessary programs and reporting functions that will facilitate timely reporting of costs, training schedules and commitment forecasts.
- Develop and promote a Succession Plan that will define appropriate localization initiatives and ensure these commitments are met.
- Promote and implement the appropriate Policies and Procedures that are based on the submissions and commitments to the Tanzanian governing agencies and the best management practices that are part of our Barrick Operating System and corporate philosophy.
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES
Education Requirements:
- Tertiary qualified Mining Engineer
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum 15 years experience in the mining industry with at least 5 years in a management and supervisory position.
- Experience in Open Cut Mining would be a preference.
- Good communication and presentation skills, both oral and written with the relevant computer skills in word processing, spread sheeting and mine planning
