Senior Social Media Officer , African Wildlife Foundation


Position Summary

As the African Wildlife Foundation seeks to increase its visibility globally, there is a need to hire an experienced, Nairobi-based Senior Social Media Officer to advance the Africa perspective and voice across AWF’s digital channels.
The Senior Social Media Officer will be responsible for building global audiences and engagement, channel integration, and brand development. S/he will also serve as a collaborative leader and internal advocate for new approaches and innovative digital strategies and technology.
Functional Strength: Increasing social engagement and share of voice for AWF, repositioning the organization as Africa’s conservation organization and leader.
Responsibilities
The Senior Social Media Officer will lead, integrate, maximize and expand AWF's social media presence. S/he will oversee social media communications organization-wide, engaging with teams and staff to ensure the AWF story and voice is reflected externally, real-time.
The Senior Social Media Officer will also help develop a comprehensive social strategy plan in collaboration with the Senior Director of Strategic Communications and senior leadership. S/he will serve as the point-person for social media globally.
The Senior Social Media Officer will:
  1. Build and execute social media strategy through persona development, competitive research, platform analysis, benchmarking, messaging and audience identification
  2. Generating, editing, publishing and sharing daily content (original text, images, video or HTML) that increases share of voice and engagement, globally
  3. Creating editorial calendars, evergreen content and identifying cross-promotional opportunities with partners centered on events and campaign schedule
  4. Continuously improving by capturing and analyzing the appropriate social data/metrics, insights and best practices, and then acting on the information
  5. Strongly collaborating with other departments, including field staff to showcase AWF’s work on the ground, making real time engagement a priority
  6. Integrating executive leadership voice with AWF’s social platforms to amplify awareness and to promote AWF’s work

Key metrics:

Quarterly and yearly analytics based on reach, spread and impressions for digital content and cross-promotional partner campaigns.

Qualifications

The Senior Social Media Officer must have extensive experience leading social media at an international organization or corporation along with demonstrated experience building executive voice platforms and a strong ability to work collaboratively.

Skills
  1. At least 8 years of relevant experience in digital media for a leading organization with strong professional working knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, Steller, and Pinterest.
  2. Knowledge of HTML and CSS, as well as CMS platforms such as Drupal and Word Press.
  3. Demonstrated experience utilizing social engagement measurement tools (NUVI) to impact overall social strategy and direction.
  4. Strong problem-solving and creativity skills with an ability to maximize the social conversation and trends to promote AWF.
  5. Exemplary skills in video production, video editing, graphic design, web design, photography, writing, editing and proofreading.
  6. Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in the representation of AWF to external audiences.
  7. Experience managing project teams and staff.
  8. Poise, presence, polish, and confidence in representing AWF and conservation to digital communities, partners, and the media.
  9. Knowledge of French and other relevant languages a distinct advantage.
  10. A bachelor’s degree in digital media, interaction design, communications, public relations or a closely related field.
