The successful candidate will work closely with irrigated breeder and team at IRRI HQ in order to further streamline breeding operations. The candidate will also be involved with optimizing line development, assist in selections, implement marker assisted selection (MAS), and support NARES in Asia.
This position is based at IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines.
Roles and Responsibilities
Research
- Support irrigated breeding activities including line development and field trials
- Assist to optimize RGA system in terms of maximizing numbers of generations per year
- Conduct marker assisted selection (MAS) for within irrigated pipeline
- Evaluate newly developed advanced breeding lines in the field trials in IRRI HQ and in NARES partners' field
- Assist in conducting relevant training, workshops and in planning and review meetings; preparation of annual work plans and progress reports
Publication and Dissemination
- Publish results of research in quality, international journals
- Attend international conference and do oral presentation
Coordination, Communication, Liaison
- Communicate with project partners and other stakeholders to ensure research outputs
- Provide professional advice in field of knowledge when requested
Management
- Manage assigned activities in project which may include budget and time management
- Supervise a small project team
Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications
- PhD in Plant breeding, molecular plant breeding or a relevant discipline with at least two years post PhD research experience with rice breeding, molecular breeding, genetics
