Develop and implement a marker assisted forward breeding program to combine different traits for tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses to develop high yielding varieties for rainfed lowland ecosystems of South Asia.
This position is based at IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines.
Roles and Responsibilities
Research
- Contribute to planning of project research agenda and project output on marker assisted forward breeding to combine genes/QTLs for different abiotic and biotic stresses, undertake DH as well as single seed descent methods to bring the genes in homozygous conditions, undertake development of mapping populations, undertake genomic selection for drought tolerance, develop SNP markers for drought grain yield QTLs identified at IRRI
- Work closely with other teams in plant physiology, agronomy and seed multiplication at IRRI and in different countries
Publication and Dissemination
- Publish results of research in quality, international journals
- Attend international conference, do oral presentation and prepare project work reports
Coordination, Communication, and Liaison
- Communicate with project partners and other stakeholders to ensure research outputs are disseminated
- Provide professional advice in field of knowledge when requested
Management
- Manage assigned activities in project which may include budget and time management
- Supervise a small project team
Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor from time to time.

- PhD in a relevant discipline

Preferred:
- Experience working on abiotic and biotic stresses, pyramiding QTLs, Experience with rice
