Deputy Chief Of Party, Horticulture Tanzania
Tetra Tech ARD, headquartered in Burlington, Vermont (http:www.tetratechintdev.com/) is currently accepting applications from qualified Deputy Chief of Party candidates for an anticipated USAID-funded Feed the Future agricultural competitiveness project in Tanzania. The project aims to increase incomes of the smallholder farmers through enhanced productivity, increased investments, and improved market systems. This would be a full-time position, based in Dar es Salaam. Local candidates are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
The Deputy Chief of Party candidate will support for overall program management, fulfill the responsibilities of the Chief of Party when required, manage field operations to ensure achievement of goals, and identify and mitigate program risks.
· Provide technical leadership to support improved agricultural productivity, increased rural prosperity, and improved food security;
· Ensure effective financial management of project funds including budget development and efficient utilization of program staff and resources in complete compliance with USAID and Tetra Tech rules and regulations;
· Support with leadership, supervision and direction to the project’s field implementation team, including day-to-day coordination, monitoring, and supervision of technical and general office staff, project funds, and consultants.
· Ensure timely completion of technical activities and the timely completion of contractual technical reports and deliverables (Quarterly and Annual Reports, Annual Work Plans, Performance Monitoring Plan, etc.).
Qualifications:
· A Master’s degree or other post-graduate degree in a relevant field;
· Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant and progressively responsible work experience in developing countries (previous USAID Deputy Chief of Party experience preferred);
· Minimum of five (5) years of experience with agricultural development programs implementing agricultural extension, agribusiness, and/or value chain development activities;
· Demonstrated experience with host-government and private sector partners in planning and evaluating agriculture development activities at the national and sub-national level.
· Demonstrated expertise in agricultural production, dry land and/or irrigated agriculture, water resources management in agriculture, or agronomy;
· Knowledge of USAID and other international donor rules and regulations;
· Professional experience in East Africa required; professional experience in Tanzania preferred;
· Excellent planning, management and organizational skills; demonstrated capacity to quickly assess priorities and opportunities and manage a variety of activities with sufficient attention to detail;
· Strong MS Office skills, including Excel;
· Fluency in English required; Proficiency in Swahili is preferred.
