Regional Behavior Change Communications Strategic Advisor , Kenya
Devex is assisting a leading development consulting firm in its search for a Regional Behavior Change Communications Strategic Advisor, to be based in Nairobi, Kenya.
This is a regular full-time position with benefits and allowances that is open-ended (no fixed-term contract) and is also an accompanied post.
Our client company provides technology-enabled services to achieve social impact for the government, nonprofit, and commercial sectors. Headquartered in Silver Spring, Maryland, USA, and with offices in Atlanta, Georgia, and Nairobi, Kenya, it employs over 200 staff worldwide. The company’s core competencies include information technology, research and evaluation, behavior change communications (BCC), education and training, capacity building, and program management support.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Regional Behavior Change Communications (BCC) Advisor will provide technical leadership and implementation oversight for the organization’s evidenced-based, public health, and food security BCC initiatives in East Africa. This position will be responsible for providing technical assistance to U.S. Government (USG) agencies, USG partners, and the Government of Kenya, in designing and leading high-impact communications strategies and implementations. The BCC Advisor’s responsibilities will include the following:
- Provide strategic leadership and vision for the organization’s BCC programs
- Lead BCC technical approaches across multiple projects
- Represent the organization before the stakeholders and oversee the implementation of activities throughout East Africa
- Contribute to annual work planning
- Establish and maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, nongovernmental organizations, and community groups for smooth implementation
- Work collaboratively with other project team members to ensure necessary program planning, development, resource availability, and management activities function smoothly and efficiently
- Management
- Supervise and manage BCC project staff in East Africa
- Work collaboratively with project and headquarters staff to ensure proper financial projections, reporting, spending, and compliance with project terms and conditions
- Contribute to ensure all projects meet the set targets
- Promote and support the dissemination of best practices among the project teams
- Contribute to the timely, accurate, and appropriate reporting of program activities and results to the donor, including progress reports and annual reports
Desired Skills & Experience
Education
- Master’s degree in public health, agriculture, communications, or international development.
Experience
- 15+ years of experience in designing and implementing behavior change communications strategies; 6+ years of this experience should be at senior/management-level
- Demonstrated experience providing technical assistance to food security projects of over $1,000,000 ($1 M) US per year in the East Africa region
- Experience evaluating impact of BCC interventions
- Experience developing successful, replicable and sustainable projects
- A team player accustomed to building team capacity, delegating working teams, and developing communities of learning among host country partners and counterparts
- Excellent interpersonal, writing, and oral presentation skills
- Strong change management, results oriented and decision making skills
- Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform
- Solid publications record in the BCC area, preferred
- Experience and understanding of Feed the Future frameworks
- Ability to travel nationally and internationally. The BCC Advisor must be willing to travel in the East Africa region and internationally
Language
- Fluent English required(written and spoken)
- Swahili language skills desired
