Principal responsibilities include development and management of agricultural development programs and projects in Sub-Saharan Africa for the Borlaug Institute, an element of Texas A&M AgriLife Research within the Texas A&M University System. Successful candidate will analyze crucial and emerging development issues, donor trends, and partner capabilities, and cultivate new opportunities for agricultural development projects for the Institute. A major portion of the successful candidate’s responsibilities will be to manage and provide overall coordination, leadership, coordination and backstopping for Borlaug Institute projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. This will include building and nurturing donor and partner institution relationships, ensure effective project implementation and management, and make certain that all project reports are complete and submitted on schedule. Position entails regular travel to project sites in Sub-Saharan Africa. Ideal candidate will demonstrate at least 5-10 years experience managing USAID-funded projects through contracts and/or grants, demonstrated experience writing winning proposals for complex, multi-year projects under varied donors, and experience living in a developing country within Sub-Saharan Africa conducting development work. Expertise in a relevant development discipline such as biodiversity, climate change adaptation, value chain economics, livestock policy or other, and experience with agriculture-related business management systems in fragile environments are a plus.
