ROLE, TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Urban Planner is responsible, in close cooperation with the Area Coordinator and the Project Manager, of all activities aiming to improve the quality and sustainability of the infrastructures in the refugee camps settings and Intersos compounds.
Responsibilities/duties: • Supervise and coordinate, in close collaboration with the Project Manager, the Intersos construction team on ground; • Conduct duties of site engineer for rapid construction of Intersos compound and related facilities; • Development of BOQs and other technical documents and specifications for construction of facilities, both related to the refugee camps and Intersos compound/offices, including sanitation facilities; • Ensure the site planning/layout of the refugee camps (demarcation, sanitation axes and shelters) are implemented according to the donor proposals camp development and eventually propose modification according to the rapidly changing conditions; • Design proposal camp development if requested by the donor; • Design and implement flooding prevention strategies (drainage and soil upgrading); • Design and implement shelter strategy for refugees (semi-permanent and permanent family shelters and communal shelters); • Propose energy saving activities for refugees; • Guarantee a rational and alternative energy management for Intersos compounds/offices and refugee camps; • Liaise with other team members (particularly Logistics and Warehouse Manager) to plan and develop compounds/offices;
JOB REQUIREMENTS • University degree in civil engineering from a recognized University, or equivalent; • At least 5 years experience in construction engineering including projects related to public services, office buildings, road construction, industrial buildings etc; • Significant experience as onsite field manager of rapid set up projects; • Previous experience in humanitarian projects; • Previous experience in complex emergencies highly desirable; • Ability to work and live in remote area of South Sudan • Effective communication skills and leadership qualities to ensure completion of project objectives in a team environment; • Fluency in English and other INGO working language; • Computer skills – MS Office, Auto Cad
