GOAL Malawi with funding from Irish Aid and DFID has been implementing a livelihoods programme in Nsanje district. The objective of the programme is to increase agriculture productions of cash crops among smallholder farmers and link these same farmers to established markets.
The Programme has focussed on the following: establishment of Irrigation schemes; promotion of crop diversification; capacity building of the communities focussing on different elements of crop husbandry; natural resources and environment management; cooperatives formation; and village savings and loans.
To support the national need for diversification of crops, and to accelerate a shift towards more market driven products for livelihood promotion, GOAL Malawi is seeking the services of a qualified and committed organisation or individuals to conduct an assessment that identifies cash crops that are suitable for the conditions in Nsanje, potential buyers, different models of accessing the market (as well as respective business case calculations), and stakeholders that offer supporting services.
The purpose of the assessment is to provide GOAL Malawi with a recommendation for a viable cash crop that can grow in Nsanje, a business model that should be pursued and its respective business case, as well as the identification of buyers and other stakeholders that will support income generation.
