Land O’Lakes is seeking an experienced leader for the role of Country Director on an anticipated livestock genetics improvement program funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation—Public-Private Partnership for Artificial Insemination Delivery (PAID) in East Africa. The future program’s goal is to increase private sector investment in artificial insemination goods and services in Ethiopia and Tanzania. The program will use a public and private sector partnership approach to increase access to improved and appropriate dairy genetics in East Africa. With our private sector partners we will test and introduce new reproductive technologies (sexed semen, embryo transfer, in-vitro fertilization, etc.) to increase the supply of improved heifers.
The country director will be managing the country program to include the execution of the country workplan and the management of all technical activities. S/He will support the Program Director in providing access to and managing partnership and external relationship with in-country stakeholders including private-sector genetics partners. The Country Director will direct their team in identifying and and addressing key constraints to market entry and help lay the groundwork and ready the smallholder market for private sector entry.
Qualifications:
* Minimum 5-7 years of prior experience in international dairy development programming in Eastern Africa;
* Knowledge of and networks in the livestock genetics sector in Tanzania;
* Minimum of 3 years of experience in a senior management role;
* Previous experience in the private sector, preferably in the animal genetics field;
* Proven leadership qualifications and demonstrated ability to transform strategic dialogue into action;
* Advanced degree in animal breeding, genetics, and/or bioinformatics, animal science, or related field;
* MBA or equivalent degree preferred;
* Fluent written and spoken English.
This position is wholly dependent on award and approval.
