TRANSMISSION ENGINEERS TRAINEES
4 POSTS:
(Transmission lines. Protections and Heavy Current sections)
Reports To: Principal Transmission Engineer
REF. NO. 01
POSITION OBJECTIVE
•To be responsible for all Transmission Department works comprising Protections/Heavy Current/Transmission Lines, in order to maintain reliability and quality of power supply to dispatching centers and advice on safe, efficient, effective and economic solutions to improve infrastructure of the National Grid.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
•Plan, monitor and control regional repair and maintenance activities within area of transmission line boundaries in order to ensure the most effective utilization of resources and the achievement of objectives and targets and that the works are done in line with the best standards and practices in the industry.
•Establish a functional approach to attend emergency troubleshooting works to ensure power restoration in the shortest possible time in event of severe system faults.
•To carry out regular inventory, control and monitoring of tools and equipment including vehicles to ensure their rational utility and availability and that spares parts for transmission lines maintenance are always available
•Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports to ensure there is accurate and up to date information of the transmission infrastructure status.
•Provide technical advice on losses reduction to ensure grid network sustainability.
•To test and maintain protective relaying and control devices in the grid, distribution and isolated networks according to preventive maintenance schedule to ensure that all device are healthy and functioning reliably
•To liaise with other company departments involved in planning and designing to ensure that the protection philosophy is maintained.
•To oversee, and where necessary to participate in commissioning of substations and power station equipment.
•Perform other transmission related duties as you may be assigned by your superior from time to time.
PROFESSIONAL AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
•Â Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical /Civil/ Industrial Engineering and Management or equivalent qualification from any relevant Institutions.
LIGHT CURRENT ENGINEERS TRAINEES

Reports To:Principal Light Current Engineer
REF. NO. 02
POSITION OBJECTIVE
•Execution of all light current activities and ensuring proper DC and communication systems functioning for the Grid/Distribution substations, isolated plants and other Tanesco offices. Monitoring the performance, proper maintenance of equipments, on time rectification of system defects in order to maintain availability and reliability of power supply.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
•Conduct installation, repair, test of telecommunication systems (PLC, Optical fiber, VHF radio, office telephony) and making settings of voltage, frequency and parallel current of all Automatic Voltage Regulators for Generator excitation systems as well asset inspection and operation reports.
•Monitor dc system and telecommunication equipment asset operation and maintenance programs and schedules with a level of technical input.
• Provide technical support on specialist applications or problems and undertaking valuation of assets.
• Plan and carry out preparations of test procedures, manuals and drawings of the entire Light Current network including grid and distributions substations, Hydro Plants and Thermal Power stations.
• Draw up detailed specifications and bill of quantities and works under direction on specific components/ aspects of a project.
• Reviews drawings, finalizes calculations and design specifications and makes recommendations on designs for approval.
• Perform other transmission related duties as you may be assigned by your supervisor from time to time.

POWER QUALITY ENGINEER TRAINEES

Reports To:Principal Power Quality Engineer
REF. NO. 03
POSITION OBJECTIVE
• To manage Power Quality Monitoring system and analyzing quality of power supply and related conditions including reporting for finding & conducting awareness training.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
•Maintain the existing power quality monitoring schemes.
• To prepare design specification for power quality hardware, software and establish their relation to industry standards.
• Preparation of reports detailing power quality conditions in the grid network and ensure PQ data keeping. ÂÂÂ
• To attend any other Technical assignments as may be directed by your immediate Supervisor from time to time.
PROFESSIONAL AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
•Holder of BSc. in Electrical/Power system Engineering or equivalent qualification from any recognized Institutions.
SCADA EMS SOFT WARE /HARD WARE ENGINEER TRAINEES
2 POSTS
Reports To: Principal Scada EMS/Engineer
REF. NO. 04
POSITION OBJECTIVE
•To provide technical support and maintenance for SCADA, EMS Software, EMS hardware, Automatic Generation Control (AGC), Control Performance Standards, and reliability applications to support system control.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
•To provide technical support for Energy Management System Infrastructure for compliance with the existing International Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Cyber Security Standards and corporate IT security policy.
•To provide technical support and maintenance for Operating System, SCADA servers, workstations hardware and software architecture.
• To provide technical support and maintenance for SCADA/EMS Computer network management, Security patches management, anti-virus software maintenance.
• To provide technical support and maintenance for Electronic Access Control, Electronic Access Monitoring, Information protection, Test procedures, incident response planning and recovery plans.
• Assist in development and maintenance of CIP policies and procedures to ensure compliance for critical cyber asset (CCA) networks.
• To actively participate in power studies undertaken by the division for the aim of upgrading, strengthening or improving it.
• To perform other duties from time to time as shall be delegated by the Principal SCADA Engineer (SCADA/EMS Software – Infrastructure and maintenance).
PROFESSIONAL AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
•Fresh graduate, a holder of BSc. in Electrical/Electronics/Telecommunication/ICT Engineering or equivalent qualification from any recognized Institutions.
REMUNERATION
An attractive compensation package based on performance and commensurate with the responsibility will apply to successful candidates. All positions’ terms of employment are performance based contracts.
