Volunteer Coordinator

The Foundation for African Medicine & Education (FAME) is looking for a Volunteer Coordinator to manage its volunteer program at FAME Medical Health Center, a small community clinic and hospital in rural Tanzania. Applicants should be willing to live and work on the FAME Medical campus, located in the District of Karatu.

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for responding to inquiries, scheduling volunteers, processing required paperwork, orientation and daily management of volunteers onsite and working with support staff (cooks, housekeepers, etc.) to ensure the volunteers' stay is comfortable. The volunteer program hosts up to 40 medical volunteers each year. Additional duties include documenting volunteer experiences, managing social media, providing administrative support to other departments and helping with special projects as needed. He or she must have excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (written and oral) and be hospitality oriented. A high level of computer literacy is also important.

Requirements:

• Minimum commitment of 1 year (2 years preferred)
• Start date of September 20, 2015 (earlier start date if possible)
• Driver's license and ability to drive a manual transmission automobile
• Excellent written and spoken fluency in English (Swahili fluency a plus)
• High degree of computer literacy
• Bachelors degree preferred

Compensation Package:

• $300 per month living stipend (paid in US dollars)
• Air fare travel allowance for each year of employment (up to $2,000 USD)
• Health insurance (major medical) for term of service
• Self-contained, private room on campus
• Meals, internet and housekeeping support
