PharmAccess is dedicated to improve access to quality health care in Africa for low-income groups by strengthening the private healthcare sector. In most developing countries the public sector is unable to meet the growing demand for health care of its people. Therefore, 50% of the people turn to the private sector instead, paying for health care out-of-pocket, since insurance does almost not exist. Too often this leads to catastrophic health expenses.
PharmAccess and its related foundations mobilize public and private resources for the benefit of doctors and patients through insurance (Health Insurance Fund), loans to doctors (Medical Credit Fund), clinical standards (SafeCare), private investments (Investment Fund for Health in Africa) and impact research (Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development). Together, this group of organizations serves the purpose of making good health care accessible to everyone in Africa, leading to healthier populations and social and economic development.
PharmAccess is the implementing partner of the Health Insurance Fund which is a foundation based in the Netherlands that supports private health insurance to low-income groups in Sub-Saharan Africa. In 2006, the Fund received a 100 million euro grant from the Dutch government to set up community health insurance schemes in four countries in Africa.
Since 2007, PharmAccess has initiated 2 insurance schemes in Kenya, with over 10,000 people enrolled through our local implementing partners, AAR and Africa Medilink. Our enrollees can access care at a provider network of 12 clinics, which are frequently monitored on quality. PharmAccess will be expanding the scope of its insurance and demand-side financing activities in Kenya.
The organization therefore seeks to recruit a Health Plans Program Manager for the Kenya office.
