Based: Juba, South Sudan GBP25,094 – GBP33,938 net per annum plus allowances and benefits
Oxfam has been working in South Sudan for more than 20 years and currently has development programmes being delivered in several States, including Upper Nile and Lakes. We are now looking for a committed Deputy Country Director to work jointly with the Country Director and lead the transition towards a Rights-based approach and closer co-operation with partners
The role Reporting to the Country Director and managing a small team of Senior Managers and field offices, you will be responsible for leading the implementation of high-quality Rights-based programmes in South Sudan. This will involve, among other things, co-ordination of programme planning and implementation; providing leadership and guidance to Programme Managers and supervising their operations; and ensuring that programme implementation is done with partners.. You will ensure that any programme activities take into account the specific needs of women. You will also work closely with the Funding Team to ensure that programmes have sufficient and consistent funding and that a high quality of grant requests is maintained. .
What we’re looking for To succeed in this role, you will have substantial experience in implementing a Rights-based approach. You do not necessarily need a particular technical background, but you must be able to demonstrate the capacity to manage programmes and personnel based in remote bases and the ability to multi-task. Your capacity to understand the bigger picture will be unquestioned, as will your analytical and conceptual skills. You will have experience working with partners and supporting local organisations to improve their capacity. Strong people management skills are essential as are excellent communication skills in English – both oral and written. Demonstrable project cycle management experience is a key requirement, as is good monitoring & evaluation skills. You will be able to write good quality proposals and reports for donors and have experience on managing large donors funds. Whilst the role is based in Juba you must be prepared to travel extensively, sometimes under difficult circumstances
The rewards In addition to the salary (GBP33,179 – GBP46,826 gross equivalent), which will be paid net, with Oxfam meeting the tax liabilities, there is a Hard To Work Allowance of GBP4,000 net, plus a range of attractive benefits.
