GENERAL MANAGER – BULYANHULU MINE

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer we seek to appoint a General Manager at our Bulyanhulu Underground Gold mining operation in Tanzania. Bulyanhulu Mine is a world class asset with exciting growth opportunities.

The successful person will be accountable for the efficient and safe management and operation of all assets and resources by setting direction and leading development, coordination and implementation of strategic plans aligned with the overall Company l strategy to ensure long-term profitability and growth.

KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Safety Leadership
1.1. Visibly drives safety programs on the mine ensuring Legislative and Company Standards compliance.
1.2. Develops strategies to develop and sustain a safety culture where employees and contractors take ownership for safety in the workplace.

2. People Leadership
2.1. Manages employees, consultants and contractors consistent with Company values
2.2. Defines clear roles and accountabilities for direct reports which are aligned with the mines business objectives
2.3. Builds management and technical succession depth by recruiting developing and retaining the right people
2.4. Drives localization programs to ensure national employees are developed to their potential

3. Environmental Management
3.1. Provides leadership to ensure legislation and Company Policy and Standards are maintained
3.2. Ensures that environmental management is embedded as core part of the business

4. Community Relations
4.1. Develops and maintains positive relationships with stakeholders in surrounding communities, in accordance with the Company’s Community Relations policies.
4.2. Ongoing with engagement with relevant stakeholders ensuring our social license to operate is maintained

5. Business and Strategic Planning
5.1. Accountable for developing a Bulyanhulu Mine 5 Year Strategic Plan aligned to the Company’s Strategic Objectives
5.2. Accountable for delivering to schedule an annual optimised 3-year business plan in accordance with Company standards

6. Budgeting
6.1. Accountable for developing an annual budget for the mine and managing activities within the limits of the budget

7. Financial & Capital Management
7.1. Accountable for implementing effective Financial and Capital Management discipline on the mine site
7.2. Accountable for creation of a business culture on the mine
7.3. Accountable for the development of a LOM mine Capital Plan

8. Value Creation/Improvement
8.1. Actively pursues and seeks out value creation opportunities to improve the efficiency and output of the mine
8.2. Promotes and holds direct reports accountable for continuous improvement within their areas of responsibility

9. Risk Management
9.1. Accountable for ensuring that an annual risk review is conducted covering all aspects of the mine’s business
9.2. Accountable for ensuring risk mitigation plans are developed
9.3. Accountable for integrating the risks and mitigation plans into operational plans

10. Reporting
10.1. Accountable for ongoing reporting of the mine activities in line with Company requirements
10.2. Accountable for ensuring that Direct Reports report monthly on their progress against the approved plans

PROFESSIONAL AND BEHAVIORAL ATTRIBUTES/COMPETENCIES 

Education Requirements
• Degree or Diploma, preferably mining related
• Business Leadership qualification is recommended (MBA or similar) 

Experience Requirements:
• Ten years of management experience of which five should be at a senior managerial level
• At least five years experience in the mining industry
• Recommend previous experience in multi cultural developing country environment
