WORK HOURS: Full-time; 48 hours/week
SALARY: Starting ETB 70,952 (annual salary), plus benefits
Basic Functions of the Position:
1. Mechanic Duties:
- Maintain vehicles in safe operating condition. Does safety check of all vehicles before any trips are taken. Notifies General Service Manager of vehicle safety problems which can only repaired at local garage.
- Does general maintenance service such as changing the oil ,changing transmission fluids, does tune-ups, changes tires, does minor electrical work, checks coolant levels, changes brake pads, monitors brakes, etc. and does other work as assigned. Performs minor repair work when vehicles break down.
- Drives staff, volunteers, and official visitors to authorized destinations as assigned by General Service Manager. (Note: some travel may be for one or more overnights).
- Observes good safety and security practices with passengers: i.e. ensures that all passengers delivered at night are indoors before departing.
- Acts as interpreter for American staff if/when necessary.
- Makes airport pick-ups and delivery of passengers as assigned
- Keeps vehicles filled with petrol, checks oil, transmission fluid, and coolant levels, checks air pressure in tires each week or as necessary due to driving condition
- Assists General Service Manager in picking up ordered supplies and performing other errands.
- Assists staff in loading and unloading the vehicle of such items as PCV mail, training/seminar supplies and equipment, etc.
- Assists staff and volunteers with the transfer of furniture and equipment, loading, transporting and unloading.
- Assists APCDs in each sector & Safety/Security office to assess housing, assist with site identification, act in supportive manner with PCVs in site locations.
- Be knowledgeable and supportive of PC/Ethiopia safety and security policies and procedures, to include timely reporting of suspicious incidents, persons or articles.
Required Experience: Two years of previous work experience as a driver and mechanic with US Government Missions, INGO or NGOs is required OR previous experience with Peace Corps.
Language Requirement: Level 3 (Good working knowledge) of speaking/Reading English and Amharic is required.
Skills and Abilities: The incumbent must be able to carry limited loads to and from vehicles; must have knowledge of road conditions throughout Ethiopia and ability to plan vehicle maintenance for such conditions; must be able to demonstrate accuracy in filling out paper work and must possess a minimum of 3rd class valid Ethiopian driver’s license.
Interpersonal Skill Requirements: Must demonstrate cooperative working relationship with other staff.
