Rinto Tinto Iron and Titanium (RTIT) product group is embarking on several projects in Madagascar, Mozambique and South Africa. These projects will be focused in establishing a Mineral Sands centre of excellence in Africa. We are seeking interested applicants for a number of roles for the projects.
Right now we are looking for an experienced Environmental & Biodiversity Specialist to join our team in Mozambique. The key focus of this role will be to manage the development and implementation of the Environment team programs, initiatives, systems and procedures for the projects.
Responsabilities:
- Manage, collate and report environmental data to the Works Director advising of any non compliance and anticipated issues
- Lead the business in the reporting of environmental results which comply with legislative requirements and corporate standards
- Provide the HSEC Superintendent with information and guidance on all environmental aspects
- Ensure compliance with RT biodiversity strategy and IFC requirements on biodiversity management
- Develop and coordinate Net Positive Impact strategy for biodiversity
- Coordinate environmental baseline studies in the area
- Provide demonstrated leadership & commitment to Rio Tinto HSEC standards and values.
Requirements:
- An environmental, science or engineering degree
- Previous industrial, regulatory or consultancy environmental experience
- Substantial experience in environmental &/or biodiversity management
- Experience in major project development desirable
- Experience with environmental and communities aspects of mining and exploration highly desirable
- Previous work experience in West Africa or developing countries and familiarity with the issues facing biodiversity conservation
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- A good knowledge and understanding of ISO 14001 is required.
