Our Tulawaka Gold Mine based in Tanzania require a suitably qualified and experienced individual who will assist the Occupational Health and Safety Manger and operational teams by driving the development, review and implementation of robust, high level document control measures, systems and procedures. Additionally the incumbent will assist the OHS Manager to ensure high level safety compliance and the attainment of best practice in the safety arena to meet Barrick Corporate objectives.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Document Control and OHS Systems Compliance Senior Coordinator is responsible for:
- The development, review and implementation of robust, high level document control measures, systems and procedures
- Management of the RIMS database
- Implementation and management of Inthinc (champion)
- Commission and monitor the performance of the Medgate database (until handover to medical staff)
- Commission and monitor the performance of the Chemalert database (until handover to environmental staff)
- Monitoring and auditing the implementation of the Barrick Safety and Health System at Tulawaka for ABG and contractors (support role).
- Ensuring site wide safety compliance requirements are met in accordance with the Barrick Health and Safety Policy
- Ensuring all Site Mine activities comply with International OHS and industrial hygiene standards that meet or exceed worldwide industry best practice and applicable legislative requirements
- Develop, implement and monitor the Tulawaka safety reporting framework
- Assist with the closeout and documentation of internal and external audit report findings
- Production of departmental reports
- Providing visible and high level leadership and support to Mining, Maintenance, Process and Contractor personnel to ensure the safe and efficient operation of Site Mine operations and associated infrastructure
The specific duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Process / SWP mapping
- Site wide Document control
- Focus on developing enhanced OHS standards, procedures and plans (review existing and establishing new)
- General OHS support whilst covering personnel gaps (Supt rotations)
- The facilitation and control of actions plans for FRA’s
- RIM's training champion (mentoring role)
- Inthinc site champion (mentoring role)
- Assist medical staff with the development and implementation of medical systems, standards and procedures
- Ensure compliance with Barrick safety and health policies and procedures and relevant Tanzanian safety and health regulations
- Filing and archiving both electronic and paper medias.
- Promote a safety and risk management culture at Tulawaka through education, training and mentoring.
- Identify the training needs of subordinate staff and submit recommendations to the OHS Manager
- Attend relevant departmental safety related meetings as agreed with the OHS Manager
- Periodically fulfil the responsibilities and accountabilities of the OHS Manager
- Any other duties deemed appropriate by the OHS Manager
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES
Education Requirements:
- Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health & Safety or Auditing (or working towards)
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years experience in underground and open pit mining, construction and minerals processing environment.
- Comprehensive and demonstrable working knowledge of database management and document control systems and processes.
- Comprehensive and demonstrable working knowledge of Inthinc, RIMS, Chemalert and Medgate data management systems.
- Sound working knowledge of Safety Management Systems and protocols
- Accident /incident investigation and reporting experience (Taproot preferred)
- Detailed understanding of project phases & management
- Detailed understanding of document classification schemes
- Practical experience in preparing and implementing Document Control standards and procedures
- Ability to transmit documents in accordance with Project standards
- Ability to archive documents in accordance with Project standards
- Managing a large number of documents concurrently and be able to organize these documents with a high degree of accuracy
- Advanced competency with Microsoft Office programs including Visio, Word, Excel and Power Point
- Attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Experience in training of personnel in safety practices and procedures
- Auditing experience
- Possession of excellent communication skills
- Ability to implement plans and achieve goals
- Ability and experience in training, coaching and mentoring subordinate personnel to ensure consistent levels of service are achieved
