AKU’s Information Technology division is in transition to a ‘global service-delivery’ model and is searching for the Director of Global Project Management Office (G-PMO) who will be responsible for overseeing and reporting on all IT projects in all AKU Campuses and Hospitals across the world. The incumbent will undertake strategic planning, project management and coordinate efforts to integrate information management systems and emerging initiatives in South and Central Asia, East Africa and Europe in response to changes in business processes, technology and priorities.
Specifically, the Director, G-PMO will promote the development and diffusion of project management culture and maturity across all entities, develop and manage the global project portfolio management process, integrate the global project decision-making with overall strategy, and serve as the single point of contact for accurate status updates on all projects. S/he will oversee the creation and maintenance of the information technology project framework and plans that communicate tasks, milestones, dates, status and resource allocation. There will be 4 direct and 10-20 indirect resources reporting to this position. The Director will report to and work under the direct supervision of the Chief Information Officer.
The position will be based in either East Africa or Pakistan.
Responsibilities |
- Provides executive oversight for IT initiatives and maintains responsibility for aggregating and reporting for IT related projects and programs within the University;
- Responsible for providing a centralized status, reporting, analysis of all programs/projects with corresponding impacts to budget, delivery timetables, and resources;
- Provides direction and oversees all global systems for project planning, implementation and monitoring;
- Organizes the global Project Management Office structure to effectively achieve organizational and stakeholder engagement objectives;
- Supervises major periodic project and portfolio review meetings - driving results and resolving key project and program delivery issues;
- Oversees preparation of key management communications such as project steering committee presentations, status reports, budget reports, etc;
- Conducts education and mentoring for staff and management regarding project management methodologies and best practices;
- Updates understanding of contemporary project management techniques and industry practices, as they impact organizational objectives;
- Develops, executes and reviews/adjusts project work plans appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements; ensures projects are delivered on-time, within budget and scope;
- Prepares for engagement reviews and quality assurance procedures;
- Ensures efficient project related data management;
- Facilitates project staff at multiple levels in complying with project guidelines and standards;
- Manages project budgets - Understanding of basic models and cost-to-completion projections;
- Leads project charters; including completing project scoping and assessments.

Requirements |
- At least 5 years’ experience of project management in information technology preferably in education, healthcare, research or public health sectors;
- Experience of project management, process improvement and budget management is essential; Certification in Project
- Management and IT governance would be a definite asset;
- Masters in Computer Engineering/Systems/Computer Science or equivalent experience;
- Knowledge and understanding of goals and the interdependencies of functional departments and groups and the ability to lead large-scale complex IT projects in addressing overall business needs;
- Strong analytical and research skills;
- Skills in collecting and analyzing complex data, evaluating information and systems, and drawing logical conclusions;
- Ability to deliver effectively under pressure while meeting multiple deadlines;
- Excellent skills in verbal and written communications, including active listening and presentation skills;
- Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, administration, financial and human resource management.
