Project Title: Community Capacity Development towards advocacy for Sustainable Management of mineral resources (coal, limestone and sand) in Kitui County. OLF- Kenya is an indigenous Non Governmental Organisation whose purpose is to enable sustainable community development. Olive Leaf Foundation Kenya Office is implementing a GOSW/DFID -funded program through Act! In Kitui County entitled ChangieniRasili Mali (CRM) focusing on The Arid and Semi-Arid Lands. Kitui County is the focus of this project as it exhibits most of the natural resources management challenges characteristic of ASALs. The main goal of this programme will be to enhance the capacities of Community Based Organizations (CBOs) in Kitui County to advocate for policies and laws that promote better management and sustainable utilization of mineral resources in Kitui County.Objectives of the assignment
OLF-K is recruiting a database consultant to develop a database of capacity building sources and technical support for ASAL development and all Natural Resource Management related issues. The contract is for 30days which includes database maintenance for the entire project period of 2 years.Organizational context and responsibilities
The database consultant will work closely with the Program Manager and the Capacity Building and Advocacy Officer during the development and maintenance of the database.Responsibilities and tasks
5.1 Planning stage- Read all relevant documents and material
- Gather all necessary data
- Devise a plan for the system development including methodology to be used and timeframe
5.2 Requirement definition
- Sit with the staff collecting information and recording what is needed from the system - Study current existing manual systems - Set the scope of the system and write system proposal getting networks acceptance
5.3 Analysis phase
- All requirements gathered are to be converted to facilitate the design - Develop all relevant diagrams for system design
5.4 Design phase
- Design prototype(s) of the system - Design the interface of the system
5.5 Construction
- Build the system - Test modules and continue construction
5.6 Testing
- Test the system - Identify errors and modifications and apply
5.7 Documentation
- Prepare the user manual & provide system documentation (report)
5.8 Other
- Install, train relevant users, Provide long term system support and maintenance - In consultation with the Program Manager, Prepare a database training plan which can be implemented to stakeholders.

• Meet deadlines in delivering the following: • A system design development work plan • Testing feedback and report • Provide documentations of the system • Provide manual for the systemSkills/qualifications/experience:
• Bachelor Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, software engineering or relevant • At least 3 years experience in system development • Proficient computer skills in MS Office applications including MS Access, MS Excel etc • Good communication skills in English • Very good listening skills • Possess strong problem solving and interpersonal skills • Possess ability to be systematic and logical in design preparation • Ability to work independently within tasks assigned, and as part of a team in terms of collaborative climate and dedication to deliver results • Demonstrated high professional and ethical standards. • Understanding of current NRM issues is desirable.Submission
