During the past 16 years we have safely found, removed and destroyed millions of landmines, small and large bombs, missiles and other tools of armed conflict. By freeing up millions of acres of land we are the precursor to the development and economic growth of conflict-affected countries throughout the Middle East, South East Asia and Africa.
MAG's programme in North Sudan has grown rapidly and we are now seeking a Finance Manager to support MAG’s expanding operations. MAG North Sudan is undertaking a wide range of mine action initiatives covering 3 main operational areas, including Khartoum, Kassala and the Blue Nile region.
Reporting to the Country Director in North Sudan, the Finance Manager will have overall responsibility for the financial management of the programme, including control of expenditure, budgeting, cash flow management and administration. In addition, a key aspect of the role will be to provide support and training to the national Finance Manger, with the ultimate objective of nationalising this post in the medium term.
Robust and efficient Financial Management is essential to the implementation of MAG’s life sustaining work. The Finance Manager will be responsible for maintaining and improving financial management and internal control systems and financial planning. Based in Khartoum but with regular travel to the operational locations, the successful candidate will need to have an awareness of personal security, cultural sensitivity and diplomatic manner.
You will need to be a fully qualified accountant, with previous experience of working in a similar role. In addition, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to work independently, be managed from a distance and build excellent working relationships with project stakeholders. You should also be able to demonstrate the ability to report in a timely and accurate manner. A patient, tactful and diplomatic approach will be required in this challenging environment.
The salary for this position is £26,586 - £29,923 per annum plus a £2,000pa hardship allowance and per diem of circa US $12,000pa. MAG will also provide accommodation, three international leave flights per year, two paid and funded one week ‘breather breaks’ at a regional destination and insurance, amongst many other benefits.
