The U.S. Mission Addis Ababa is seeking an individual for the position of Civil Engineer for the Overseas Building Operations (OBO) office.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
Under the direct supervision of the OBO Project Director, incumbent will serve as Project Civil Engineer for the New Embassy Compound project and is responsible for overseeing site work elements of the project (water and sanitary systems, site grading, and concrete for vertical and horizontal construction). Incumbent shall inspect construction; review plans; recommend approval of shop drawings and submittals; maintain a daily log of construction activities; develop change orders including preparing cost estimates; and other construction engineering duties related to the construction of the Addis Ababa NEC as directed by the OBO Project Director. H/She shall be capable of working independently and shall provide professional engineering services.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

1. Required Education: A Bachelor of Science degree in Civil engineering is required.
2. Required Experience: Minimum seven years of progressively responsible experience in the field of civil engineering, preferably related to building construction and renovations is required.
3. Language Requirement: Level 4 (Good working knowledge) of Speaking/Reading English and Amharic language is required. (English language proficiency will be tested)
4. Other Skills: Incumbent must have knowledge in design and construction practices with relevant civil codes and specifications, thorough professional knowledge in civil design calculations and criteria, preparation of engineering drawings and specification and competency in using engineering management software is required. Incumbent must also have competency in using MS Office suite; ability to use, maintain daily construction inspection logs; ability to create civil engineering cost estimates, review civil construction drawings for code compliance and provide briefings to the PD on civil issues.
5. Interpersonal Skill Requirements: Must exhibit cooperative working relationship with customer, co-workers and supervisors.
