Sustainable Charcoal Project
The Tanzania Forest Conservation Group in partnership with the Tanzanian Community Forestry Network (MJUMITA) is planning to implement the 'Sustainable Charcoal Project' with the goal that: 'Commercially viable value chains are established for legal, sustainably sourced charcoal'. The project is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation as part of a broader programme 'Transforming Tanzania's Charcoal Sector'. As part of this project, TFCG and MJUMITA are seeking applications from qualified Tanzanian women and men for the following positions, all of which are based in Kilosa and are for 24 months with the possibility to renew for a further 48 months subject to a positive mid-term evaluation. The position of Technical Advisor is also open to women and men who are not Tanzanian nationals.
Project Manager, TFCG
Qualifications and experience
• An MSc or higher degree in a subject related to natural resources management or community development.
• At least 5 years experience in project management.
• Demonstrable success on natural resources management issues preferably with experience in working on sustainable charcoal, participatory forest management, community development and advocacy.
Responsibilities
• Overall leadership, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of the project;
• Research on sustainable charcoal technologies

Technical Advisor, TFCG
Qualifications and experience
• MSc or higher degree and at least 8 years experience in a related field including work in East Africa.
Responsibilities
•Responsible for supporting the Project Manager to successfully achieve the outcome and outputs of the Sustainable Charcoal Project with specific responsibilities on overseeing the development of a marketing strategy;
• providing input on the development of sustainable charcoal certification; and developing guidelines to link sustainable charcoal with participatory forest management.

Advocacy Officer, MJUMITA
Qualifications and experience
• BSc or higher degree in a related subject.
• At least 5 years experience in working with rural communities, preferably in relation to advocacy.
Responsibilities
• Development and implementation of an advocacy strategy to remove supply-side barriers to a sustainable and equitable charcoal sector.

Project Officer, TFCG
Qualifications and experience
• BSc or higher degree in a subject related to natural resources management and / or agriculture.
• At least 5 years experience in working with rural communities, preferably in relation to participatory forest management, sustainable charcoal production or community development.
Responsibilities
• Implementation of field based activities to build community capacity in relation to participatory forest management, sustainable charcoal production, sustainable agriculture and sustainable wood harvesting.
