MDH PHE PROGRAMS MANAGER
Detailed Job Description
Reports to: PI and Co-PIs for research components of PHE and Deputy/Assistant Country Director for components related to PHE program implementation.
The study manager position in the Agents of Change PHE is a position that involves three broad areas of duties and responsibilities;
1) Project related research and mentoring
• Assist the PI and Co-PIs to enable implementation of study protocol. The study manager is the lead person in all activities related to the PHE stated above including
• Have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the PHE protocol
• Monitoring study participant accrual and ensuring randomization occurs as per protocol
• Development of data collection and capture tools for process and effects evaluation,
• Lead the data collection teams
• Monitoring the quality of data collection
• Coordination of work with MDH QMP Unit (Evaluation coordination) and MDH Data Unit to ensure data is cleaned in readiness for analysis.
• Design site specific work-plans for implementation of evaluation related activities
• Assist PHE project logistics manager (MDH Prevention Unit) in intervention programme adaptation, implementation and diffusion
• Facilitate under supervision of the PI and Co-PIs all training activities related to evaluation of the PHE: Agents of change protocol
• Protocol specific training
• Coordinate and ensure annual research ethics training of project staff
• Attending all study related meetings and taking the lead in providing weekly and monthly feed-back against work plans on intervention evaluation activities
• Undertake annual ethics and other project relevant training courses as stipulated within the MUHAS-Harvard Collaboration
2) Analyses and writing
• The staff member will be expected to work with PIs and the MDH Deputy /Assistant Country Directors in analysis and writing up of data related to this protocol
• The staff member will be expected to develop analysis plan(s) under supervision by the PIs in specific areas of personal interest and develop manuscript(s) that he/she will be lead author.
3) Preceptor for MUHAS-Harvard CE Courses
• The staff member will be expected to provide support to the courses run by the collaboration for capacity building in research based at MUHAS.
• They may be expected to take a lead role in the development of research related course content, coordination of the logistics of the courses as well as facilitate sessions with other members of staff.
4) Any other duties as required by the PIs.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Male or Female, Tanzanian, MD, MPH education level
2. A senior person committed to manage the project fully
3. Previous experience of research especially randomized controlled trials coordination/supervision
4. Human side – got to be able to look at people’s strengths, not weaknesses, affirming of people
5. Appreciative personality
6. Humor
7. Looking for what works
8. Good Manager of people, listening, questioning
9. Through your questions you make people give the answers, you create responsibility so that participants use their initiative. You trust those to whom you delegate, building confidence in people that they can do it. Giving responsibility to people and trusting them to do a good job
10. Being a good communicator: when they tell their stories, people listen; communication skills to discuss issues with enthusiasm
11. Obsessive enough to get the many details of the job done on time
