The General Secretariat directs all the administrative and financial aspects of the Union's activities, including the implementation of the provisions of the administrative regulations on operational questions, the dissemination of information on telecommunication matters for operational and other purposes, the provision of legal advice to the Bureaux of the Union and the departments of the General Secretariat, logistic support to the Union's activities including conferences, the coordination of the work of the Union with other international organizations, the dissemination of information to the Member States and Sector Members, press, corporate and individual users of telecommunications and the general public. The General Secretariat is also responsible for the organization of world telecommunication exhibitions and forums.
Organization Unit:
The TELECOM Secretariat has responsibility for the planning, organization and execution of all ITU Telecom world and regional telecommunication exhibitions and associated forums which are of considerable assistance in keeping the Member States and Sector Members informed of the latest advances in telecommunication techniques and in publicizing the possibilities of applying telecommunication science and technology for the benefit of all Members of the Union including the developing countries. ITU Telecom also features other related activities.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities of the Internship
Marketing, Communications and PR Intern

  • Providing support in the coordination of Media Barter Agreements by gathering media kit information, updating databases, coordinating benefits and deliverables, and gathering the respective proofs of publication
  • Conducting research on media specialized in ICTs, their trends and participation in global ICT events, and building a contact list
  • Conducting market research on ICT events, trends and activities
  • Assisting with PR activities by researching calendar listings of events and ensuring ITU Telecom World 2016 is listed among the most prominent; and by gathering and listing media coverage worldwide before, during and after the event
  • Coordinating event interviews by checking schedules, editing names and titles, verifying quality, sharing with MarComs team and with clients in a timely manner
  • Assisting in proof reading, correcting and/or updating print and/or online material related to media participation
  • Providing remote promotional & communications support to team onsite during ITU Telecom World 2016, where required
  • Contributing to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed; and performing any other duty assigned by supervisor
  • Qualifications required
    University degree or a technical equivalent in either PR, communications, journalism, marketing or in a field related to the responsibilities of the post
    Excellent command of English and knowledge of one of the six official languages of the ITU (Arabic, Chinese. English, French, Russian, Spanish) an advantage
  • Ability to work concurrently on different tasks;
  • Flexibility and strong organizational skills.
  • An eye for detail and the ability to meet deadlines are essential qualities.
  • Ability to produce graphics, tables and PP presentations.

  • Additional Information:
    Please note that a non-remunerated Internship position at ITU does not carry the same conditions of employment as a Short term or a Fixed term position. Mandatory Medical Insurance, travel expenses, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or sponsoring institutions.
