The African Men for Sexual Health and Rights (AMSHeR) is a Pan-African coalition of 18 Men who have Sex with Men [MSM] and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender [LGBT] -led organisations in 15 African countries working to advance access to quality health service for MSM/LGBT persons, and to address discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in Africa. AMSHeR works primarily through policy advocacy and strengthening the capacity of local MSM and LGBT organisations, other HIV service and human rights organisations, national agencies, institutions and policymakers on issues of human rights, HIV, sexual orientation and gender identity in Africa.
AMSHeR will be implementing a number of activities in Africa funded by the Open Society Foundation [OSF] and the Robert Carr Network Fund [RCNF] aimed at advancing health and human rights access for MSM/LGBT individuals through the production of credible evidence on community experience and leadership; and strengthening programme monitoring and evaluation capacity to accurately measure the impact of MSM/LGBT health access advocacy conducted by AMSHeR.
AMSHeR is inviting applications from suitably qualified individuals for the position of HIV and Health Systems Advocacy Specialist to support the effective implementation of the activities funded by OSF and RCNF. The HIV and Health Systems Advocacy specialist is responsible for developing, implementing and reporting on AMSHeR’s HIV and Health Systems strategy undertaken in line with AMSHeR’s overall strategic objectives and goals and in collaboration with other AMSHeR teams. The incumbent will also support the AMSHeR francophone Africa profile and related work.
Suitable candidates should have 4 – 6 years’ relevant experience in a regional HIV, human rights or development sector, at least 2 of which at a coordinator level. Experience on human rights-based advocacy and programming in the public health sector is required. Candidates should also have some experience engaging policymakers, and other national/regional and the ability to balance the delivery of programmes against the realities of a budget. Proficiency in French is required.
