Organizational Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Mechanism Archives and Records Section ('MARS'), Arusha branch, Registry, of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals ('Mechanism'). The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Archivist, Head of the MARS, Arusha branch.
Responsibilities
The Audiovisual Redaction Coordinator will work in close collaboration with the Audiovisual Archivist and other relevant stakeholders within and outside MARS to ensure the long term preservation and enhance the accessibility of the records of the ICTR and Mechanism. The responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating the assignments of the teams working on the redaction of the audiovisual recordings of the judicial proceedings of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda ('ICTR'). The audiovisual redaction teams are tasked with reviewing all archival audiovisual recordings of the courtroom proceedings to identify and remove any sensitive information contained in the recordings. This includes closely reviewing all relevant judicial records, applying the established redaction principles to the review process to ensure compliance with established procedures and judicial decisions and to fully document the redaction process.
- Overseeing the process of removing confidential information from the relevant language versions of the digital copies of the audiovisual records using digital audiovisual editing software, creating redacted version of the digital audiovisual recordings, and integrating those recordings and all relevant metadata into the information management systems of MARS to enhance their accessibility.
- Ensuring that all records have been reviewed and processed in a timely and efficient manner. This includes monitoring the workflow of the audiovisual redaction teams, scheduling assignments, providing regular progress reports on all activities of the teams, conducting regular needs assessments and training programmes for the Audiovisual Redactors, assessing and monitoring their performance, and overseeing the provision of required resources for the reaction process.
- Monitoring the quality of the redaction process, including performing quality control and assurance on all redacted files and monitoring and verifying the input of metadata into the other workflow management tools.
- Liaising with the Registry legal team and preparing required documentation to request judicial authorization for redactions, when required.
- Ensuring conformity to established procedures and practices and providing technical recommendations to enhance and improve the redaction methodology. This will include the development of information sharing policies and data protection procedures and will require familiarity with audiovisual editing technology and digital asset management systems.
