Context/Scope: Tanzania is the largest country in East Africa by geography and by population (approx 42m people, with a growth rate of 2.8%). It is a member of the East African Community whose headquarters is in Arusha in Tanzania. The largest population, however, is in Dar es Salaam, which is the commercial capital. Tanzania is well endowed agriculturally and has vast mineral resources in the western part of the country, where the largest urban centre is Mwanza.
Serengeti Breweries Ltd (SBL) operates exclusively in Tanzania and is the 2nd largest beer company with a market share of 25%. SBL is a subsidiary of East Africa Breweries Ltd (EABL) – which is in turn partly owned by one of the world’s biggest alcoholic beverage companies, Diageo. The company is an integrated demand/supply business with 3 operational breweries in Dar and Mwanza, and a third one in Moshi, which is situated in the northern part of the country near the Kenyan border. SBL’s flagship brand is Premium Serengeti lager, which accounts for 50% of SBL sales volumes. The other beer brands are Tusker, Tusker Malt and Pilsner.
SBL has 3 fully operational breweries in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza and Moshi have a combined capacity of 1.3m Hls. Moshi has a capacity of c600khls per annum and a scope to expand to more than 1 million in F14
Skills and competences development of all brewing staff including low skilled operators is key in order to maintain and operate this plant. The plant capacity in tank farm is less than peak sales demand. This presents a serious challenge in planning in order to meet the sales demand by brand.
Financial: The role holder will be responsible for a budget of more than £20m; plus overseeing any capital investment at the plant.
Leadership Responsibilities: The role is the operational leader for Brewing/Fermentation; Storage, filtration and packaging with functional managers of brewing/packaging/engineering/quality/Health and safety and environment. The role leads the Moshi brewery on the ground and reports directly to the SBL Supply Chain Director. The role is accountable to lead SBL employees and contractors.

Purpose of Role: Provide strategic leadership to brewing department to achieve best in class status by being accountable for the brewing team and all losses.
TOP 3-5 Accountabilities:
• Lead the brewery by developing monthly production and plant maintenance schedules, developing brands recipes that deliver value to our consumers in terms of quality and cost, laying strategies to achieve the budgets, coaching and growing the team by evaluating performance, coaching and developing the brewing staff and identify training needs and provide training to all staff to enable them acquire desired skills.
• Responsible for all production cost and quality coming out of the brewery, ensuring that the beer volumes delivered are meeting the market demand. Ensure brand availability at the lowest cost and highest quality. The product should be safe and of the right quality.
• Ensure that the ISO 9002 quality system is in place, develop and implement safety and risk mitigation plans and establish and maintain formal environmental and occupational health and safety management systems that shall ensure effective management and continual improvement. Ensure compliance with safety requirements at the work place.
Qualifications and Experience Required: Qualifications
• A honors Bachelors degree in Science or Engineering
• Post-graduate Diploma in Brewing and/or AME Diploma from IGB (Master Brewer level)
Experience
• At least five (5) years management experience in a Brewing or Packaging Industry.
• Experience in food or drink manufacturing environment, management of people performance and development and Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety in the food or drink manufacturing industry.
