SOS Children's Villages Tanzania is locally registered non-government organization affiliated to SOS Children's Villages International, a worldwide child care organization that provides children who have lost parental care with a permanent home and help them shape their own future by assisting them to recognize their individual abilities, interest and talents; by investing in their education and skills training they need to be successful and contributing members of their society. Also SOS assist families, communities and governments to assume their responsibilities, in ensuring that children have access to the services required to fulfil their survival, development, protection and participation rights. SOS Children's Villages International the umbrella organization operates in 133 countries worldwide. Its operations centres around two major programmes i.e. Family Based Care based (SOS Children's Villages) and Family Strengthening Programmes. In Tanzania, SOS Children's Villages started its operations in 1991 and currently it is working in Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Mwanza and Zanzibar (Unguja and Pemba).
INTERNAL AUDITOR RE-ADVERTISEMENT
Duty station: Dar (1 post)
Reporting to: National Director and Board of Trustees
Scope:
This position will be responsible for auditing SOS Children'S Villages Programmes/Projects and facilities located in Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar. This role will lead investigation reviews into fraud and whistle blowing complaints within SOS Children's Villages Tanzania & Zanzibar, to examine and evaluate the adequacy, effectiveness, and efficiency of the organizations internal control systems and procedures and recommend corrective actions to improve operations. Enhance internal controls and reduce costs where possible.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducts audits to assess the effectiveness of internal controls, accuracy of financial records, and efficiency of organizational operations using professional audit standards and practices by:
Prepares reports of audit results and recommendations to management using good written skills.
Conducts compliance reviews of organization records to ensure compliance with Government statutory requirements in areas including but not limited to taxation laws, employment law and any other applicable local requirements.
Ensure that work practices are risk based and are in compliance with the Institute of Internal Auditors standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (SPPIA), Kinderdorf International Financial Manual and Audit policies and procedures.
Proactively advice and support the National Director on the formulation of risk management strategies and policies on all areas of the organization with a view of ensuring that management policies adequately mitigate the risks identified.
To support in building the capability of Village Directors, Program Directors and departments' heads on risk based audit, responding to audit queries, identifying and managing operational and financial risks
Facilitate the establish and track use of systems, tools and procedures that protect SOS Children’s Villages asset, resources and public image Regularly provide summary of audit results and trends and determine the extent to which audit recommendations have been tracked and implemented by management.
Undertake special assignments, including investigating fraud and other risks and non-compliance issues as requested by National Director or line manager
Knowledge skills and abilities required
The applicant should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
CIA or CPA or other international certification will be added advantage
• Must have prior auditing experience of at least 5 years in a recognized organization. Two of these should be at a supervisory level.
Experience in public accounting will be an added advantage
• Computer literate with excellent working knowledge of computerized accounting systems, especially NAVISION
• Must have good written and oral communication skills in English
• Maturity, well organized and willingness to work under pressure of constant deadlines is important attributes
• Must be unbiased and honest in reporting along with findings facts and be able to recommend preventive measures
• Must provide a clean criminal background and reference check
• Good personal 'Judgment, initiative, creativity and maturity
• Ability to maintain the highest standards of ethics, confidentiality, and professionalism.
