Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking a Learning and Organizational Development Specialist to support our Europe, Middle East, & Africa (EMEA) area. The Learning and Organizational Development Specialist provides leadership, training and facilitation to staff throughout the region, focusing predominantly on Africa, with the aim of supporting Habitat’s overall strategic plan as well as global and regional priorities. The successful candidate will have a broad-based understanding of business fundamentals and can expect to travel up to 30% throughout the EMEA region, working with various staff including national directors and boards of directors, coordinating across departmental and functional lines. The position itself will be based out of our office in Pretoria, South Africa.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organizational Development
*Analyze and identify potential for improvements to organizational effectiveness, synergy and alignment, resulting in greater efficiencies and a higher quality of service to internal and external stakeholders. *Help evaluate the alignment of organizational structures with strategic priorities. *Support national organizations with the development of country learning and organizational development plans. *Work collaboratively to analyze and review appropriate staffing for achievement of strategic priorities. *Review effectiveness and efficiency of national organization systems for supporting strategy achievement. *Design and ensure the delivery of a comprehensive and tailored orientation program for new staff.
Leadership Development
*Conduct assessment and analysis of key leadership requirements and development needs at national and area levels, including unique requirements for specific functional, operational and programming areas. *Design a leadership development framework and delivery plan for area and national senior leaders and their direct reports. *Help define an organizational talent management framework and components to ensure the effective nurture and retention of critical organizational skills, expertise and leaders. *Identify and develop appropriate resources for leadership development programs and activities (internal and external resources). *Support EMEA directors and national organization directors in succession planning. *Oversee the implementation of leadership development across the region (for example, training courses, coaching and mentoring programs, etc.). *Monitor and continuously evaluate and strengthen the leadership development program.
Change Management
*Build the capacity of leaders in the region in using various methodologies of change leadership and management. *Facilitate programs that strengthen trust, alignment and collective ownership of change. *Provide tools for effective change leadership and management. *Act as an advisor to technical and systems trainers to promote the full realization of outcomes and benefits from implementation of the skills-transfer rather than mere installation of systems and tools.
Other
*Actively represent the area office in relevant global networks and working groups. *Communicate, affirm and apply the foundational values and principles of HFHI in decisions, recommendations and actions while carrying out work assignments. *Carry out additional responsibilities and projects as assigned, including administrative and planning functions.
REQUIREMENTS:
*Bachelor’s degree in organizational development, leadership development, business management or similar field. *3-5 years of directly related experience in organizational development and training, including coaching experience with individual leaders and leadership teams. *Experience advising or consulting using professional organizational development expertise. *Well-developed understanding of adult learning methodologies, both for groups and individuals. *Experience designing, delivering, integrating and evaluating learning and organizational development initiatives; must have working knowledge of various learning technologies, including designing and distributing resources. *Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills, including experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. *Experience designing and managing projects. *Experience with leadership development and staff retention, including knowledge of leadership requirements and characteristics as well as management and decision-making principles and techniques. *Computer skills: Must possess strong computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office Suite, Intranet and Internet, SharePoint, and various software applications and databases.
PREFERRED:
*Master’s degree in related field. *Experience with Habitat for Humanity International. *Experience with and understanding of the humanitarian industry, including how INGOs operate in the global, regional and local context. *Previous work experience in the EMEA region, especially Africa. *Language skills in French or Portuguese preferred.
