EAC LIBRARY EXPERT (2 POSTS)


Applications are invited from suitably qualified citizens of East African Community Partner States for the following position tenable at the EAC Secretariat

SHORT TERM LIBRARY EXPERT (2 POSTS) – (REF: EAC/HR/2012/061)

Reports to: Principal Librarian

Main Purpose of the Job:

To develop Meta data and indexing of the upgraded Reports database in order facilitate easy and timely retrial of Council decisions and Directives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Extract and retype all Summit/Council Decisions and Directives and upload in the re-designed and up-graded database

2. Develop metadata data fields such as key words, subject terms, for all the reports ( Summit, Council, technical and expert ) in the Reports Database in line with international standards such as Dublin code, MARC

3. Index the decisions and directives, phase by phase and word by word

4. Catalogue, classify and abstract the physical reports using international standards to facilitate reference in line with agreed policies and procedures

5. Provide reference services, user training and guidance to the up-graded database

6. Assist with uploading and up-dating of the database during the period of contract


7. Promote a positive corporate culture and image of the Community

Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree, in Library and information science or related field from recognised Institution.

Knowledge of Meta data development, and indexing of information resources. Knowledge of operatives of information management databases. Experience in information processing and management. Proficiency in computer operations, specifically in Library systems, and database management. Working experience with universities and specialized libraries will be an added advantage.

Skills and Competences:

The candidate should have the ability to index documents according to international standards. Good skills in classification and cataloguing, Communication, database management, Public relations and ability to work independently and display initiative

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

This position is non-established project position tenable at the EAC Secretariat Headquarters based in Arusha, Tanzania and supported by RISP Project.

The position will be tenable for a period not exceeding four (4) months none renewable.

SALARY

The short term contract attracts a salary of USD 1500 per month (all inclusive).
