Any subsequent extension(s) are subject to terms of the Tribunal’s mandate and/or the availability of funds. The Special Tribunal for Lebanon is an international inter-governmental organization with its own independent legal identity and not a UN organization. However, STL follows the UN common system for benefits and entitlements to its staff members. UN staff members may also serve on loan from their parent department/office, if selected. Appointment against this post is on a local basis.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Case Management Assistant will be deployed within the Case Management Team (CMT) of the Prosecution Division.
Under the direct supervision of the CMT Legal Officer and any delegated supervision, the Case Management Assistant will be responsible for a variety of functions, including but not limited to the following:
•Daily assistance to the Case Management Team (CMT) in administration of case material for pre-trial and trial related work, including the retrieval and dissemination of documents, disclosure preparation, exhibit identification, processing translation requests and maintenance of records to provide statistical information; •Liaise with staff of the CMT to provide support in the organizing and filing of materials for pre-trial and trial related purposes; •Daily use of the electronic systems used by the Prosecution Division. •During trial activity, provide administrative support to the Trial Team and Case Managers; •Maintains contact with all team members to ensure that sufficient operational support is provided as required.
COMPETENCIES:
•Professionalism - Knowledge of case management administrative assistance in the international context, or sufficient equivalent administrative experience. •Client Orientation – Ability to tailor reports and dissemination of information to the particular needs of various clients. •Planning and Organising - Demonstrated ability to effectively and appropriately plan one’s own work; Ability to work under pressure with deadlines and on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously; •Technology Awareness - Fully proficient computer skills; Familiar with analytical and/or investigative software in addition to MS Office. Of particular benefit would be experience in the use of i2 or iBase; •Communication - Excellent English language communication (oral and written) skills. •Teamwork - Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Completion of secondary education; formal training and/or demonstrable experience in information analysis, research in a political, legal, or security setting, or related fields.
Experience: At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in related roles, ideally in a legal environment. Experience in an international legal environment would be advantageous. Possession of a university degree in a relevant field may be considered in substitution of years of experience. Languages: Arabic, English and French are the official languages of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is a strong asset.
