BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT-EXPORT MANAGER , KENYA
THE POSITION
The Business Development Export Manager will be responsible for leading and developing further a significant commercial business in the wider East Africa/COMESA region by identifying strategic opportunities and establishing strong trade, key account and distributor relationships as appropriate to maximize market opportunities.
He/ She will also be responsible for directly leading sales, trade marketing and brand support activities in the country (ies) which will have been co-developed with the respective central teams and hence delivery of the country(ies) P&L with particular emphasis on top-line growth.
The position will report directly to the Managing Director.
The Business Development Export Manager’s key focus area is Commercial Leadership in the assigned geography:
• Utilizing the available resources and teams to define and implement local commercial best practice.
• Scoping and targeting the commercial market opportunities in East Africa/COMESA to grow the business in accordance with the unit’s/group’s three (3) year ambition.
• Executing business/market development plans to deliver the agreed targeted numbers, top-line growth and profitability.
• Identifying and implementing activities and promotions that drive growth and reduce the impact of competitor initiatives.
• Identifying and proposing market and category growth opportunities in conjunction with category and business development teams including channels or territories and distribution opportunities.
• Developing and implementing strategies to manage and develop national distributors, trade and key account opportunities within the local market.
• Co-developing with the distributors’ growth strategies, regularly assessing performance and reviewing market activity.
• Ensuring capability and effectiveness of distributor sales teams, educating and selling in new products.
• Driving customer and consumer engagement by seeking local shopper insights and providing input to regional/ global category and brand development teams.
• Developing and sustaining a high performing sales team.
Desired Skills & Experience
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & BACKGROUND NEEDED
• A Bachelor Degree in a relevant field from a recognized university.
• At least 6 years experience in FMCG sales, with at least 3 years experience of managing teams and channels in a multinational/multicultural environment; must include experience of working in the key markets covered by the role.
• A demonstrable track record of developing and managing a sales force across East Africa and Central Africa; demonstrable experience of business development, managing and developing third party and distributor sales.
• Commercial experience in developing and implementing successful/profitable market/channel strategies.
• Demonstrable strategic thinking and evidence of entrepreneurial spirit are key for this role.
• Ability to demonstrate the passion, drive and determination to inspire a team of geographically dispersed individuals to achieve the corporate goals.
• Strong multi-cultural people management and development skills.
• Demonstrated ability to engage and align different/multiple functions through influence rather than direct authority.
• Proven influencing and sales skills are essential.
• Good numerical and verbal skills.
• Local language skills are desirable.
• Ability to work remotely.
