Contract Type : Short term contract until 31 December 2012 (Special Service Agreement) with possibility of renewal
Salary : CAD $ 2,647.08 /month, net of income taxes

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education Post-secondary education, preferably with completion of
statistical methods or data processing courses. Additional training
in economics, statistics or data management would be an asset.
2. Experience At least five years of relevant professional experience of which at least a few involving the development and management of
statistical databases and programming. Advanced knowledge of
MS Access, MS Excel and standard statistical packages such as
SPSS or SAS is required.
3. Languages Excellent knowledge of English or French and a good knowledge of the other language. Working knowledge of Arabic, Chinese,
Russian or Spanish would be an asset.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to manipulate and analyze large data sets using advanced
functions of Microsoft Excel, Access and standard statistical
packages. Good organizational and interpersonal skills, time
conscious and ability to work in team.
4. Nationality In order to be eligible for this contract, applicants must be a
Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada or hold a valid
work permit Canada.
5. Occupant responsible to Programme Specialist, Culture (CLT)
DUTIES:
Under the overall authority of the Director of the UNESCO
Institute for Statistics (UIS) and the direct supervision of the
Assistant Programme Specialist for Culture Statistics in charge
VACANCY NOTICE STATISTICAL ASSISTANT, CLT – UIS (CONT.)
of the development of the cultural employment survey, the
incumbent will perform the following functions:
1) Support the implementation of a metadata survey on cultural
employment by:
a) Developing the necessary electronic survey instrument.
2) Develop an Access database:
a) To store and manipulate the metadata information
collected during phase 1 of the project.
b) To store and manipulate data collected from the
metadata survey.
3) Prepare a prototype statistical database for the new UIS
cultural employment survey:
a) Develop the initial database for data capture, processing
and extraction of cultural employment data.
4) Assist with the development of data estimation and
imputation methodology.
5) Perform other tasks related to the culture team's programme
as required.
