1.Introduction
Save the Children Somalia / Somaliland (SCISOM) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) whose mission is to fight for children’s rights and deliver immediate and lasting improvement to children’s lives worldwide. SCISOM has been operational in the Greater Somalia for over 40 years. Currently SCISOM operates programmes that span relief to development with a wide range of programming in Health, Nutrition, Child Protection, Child Rights Governance, Vocational and Skills Training, Education and Food Security & Livelihoods working in Somaliland, Puntland and Central and South Somalia. SCISOM works to ensure quality programming on the ground which forms the basis to advocate for greater changes in policy and practice at regional, national and global levels.
1.Background of project
SCISOM is implementing an AusAid funded project entitled Community-based Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation (DRR /CCA Project) in Oodwayne district Somaliland. The purpose of the project is that vulnerability of children and their communities in the Oodwayne district of Togdheer region of Somaliland to recurrent shocks is decreased and their ability to adapt to and influence change is strengthened.
Under the objective of “Communities have enhanced access to alternative livelihood” SCISOM is seeking to train communities in the agro pastoral field schools methodology with an aim to improve the information sharing and knowledge base of the targeted communities and improve livelihoods.
1.Purpose
The purpose of this to complete training- the- trainer on agro pastoral field schools in Oodwayne district.
1.Scope of work
• Preparation of training: using the FAO guided agro pastoral field schools methodology with specific adjustments for the Somaliland context
• Briefing of SCISOM staff: Explanation of process and topics to be discussed
• Training: SCISOM will select the participants
• Training report: an overview of what was taught, who attended, arising issues and recommendations on next steps
1.Expected Outputs
• A final report on training to be submitted by 30 days of the launch of the work.
1.Methodology
The training should be based on the FAO model of agro pastoral field schools. This should take into consideration any lessons learned and good practices that have recently shared on experiences in the Greater Horn of Africa. Additionally the training must take into consideration the specific needs and cultural practices of Somaliland agro-pastoral communities.

1.Timeframe
• The training must be done between September and October 2012
• The entire consultancy should not exceed 30 days.
1.Management structure
• The commissioning manager is the Community-based Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation (DRR /CCA Project) in Oodwayne district Somaliland project manager
• The consultant will interact and consult with other key staff members of throughout the time period
1.Level of access to children
The responsibilities of the consultancy may require the consultant to have regular contact with children or young people. In the overseas context all posts are considered to be level 3 posts in view of potential situations that may allow staff unsupervised access to vulnerable children and young people.

Required qualification and experience The consultant should: • Be a certified training the trainer in pastoralist / agro pastoralist field schools • Experience in agro-pastoral livelihoods programming • Experience in designing participatory trainings • Relevant degrees in social sciences, economics, development studies or related fields • At least 5 years professional experience in development and / or humanitarian work • Experience working in the Somali context • Fluency in Somali language required
