I. Background Information
The Development Innovations Group (DIG) is a private, international firm committed to fostering innovative solutions in the fields of financial services for the poor; urban water and infrastructure services; and fund management.
The Development Innovations Group (DIG) was selected by Tetra Tech ARD and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to serve as Subcontractor for USAID’s Sustainable Water and Sanitation in Africa program (SUWASA) to implement the SUWASA Kenya program. The SUWASA Kenya program is aligned with the overall SUWASA goal to promote innovative reforms and sustainable financing for safe water and adequate sanitation. The SUWASA Kenya program links the expertise and experience of microfinance institutions (MFIs) with the strategic plans of Water Service Providers (WSPs) to increase access to water and sanitation among the urban poor in Kenya.
II. Scope of Work
Summary of Key Functions: Develop promotional materials and communications documents for SUWASA Kenya initiatives in the water and sanitation sector and report on the progress under the supervision of the Team Leader. This position will require travel to program cities.
III. Responsibilities
• Ensure visibility of the SUWASA Kenya program through further developing, preparing and disseminating regular snapshots, success stories, best practice articles, press releases and other promotional material, both web-based and in print; • Update and maintain SUWASA’s online content (with guidance from the SUWASA Communications and Outreach Officer), including both the external website and internal employee intranet; • Organizing visits to project sites, facilitating photo coverage and video footage for use in web based and traditional media to generate and maintain public interest in the SUWASA Kenya program initiatives in Kisumu and Nakuru; • Support the technical personnel in developing knowledge products based either on projects being implemented or general sector knowledge; • Coordinate media and marketing events, including press conferences, informational meetings for employees, and online broadcasts –in line with USAID guidelines; • Develop reports of ongoing projects, including visual representation of findings (charts, graphs, pictures, etc.); • Travel to program cities.
IV. Requirements
• At least five years progressive experience in communication, print and broadcast media, public relations or other related field; • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills in English (USA); • Ability to articulate and communicate complex issues to a variety of audiences across technical disciplines and to non-technical audiences; • Competence in developing and producing reports and other similar documents and possession of substantive knowledge in donor reporting and coordination; • Strong personal initiative, problem solving skills, creativity, and ability to work independently and as a member of a team; • Ability to manage several tasks at the same time; and • Experience in developing web content.
