The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. This post is located in the Urban Mobility Unit, Urban Basic Services Branch of UN-Habitat. | |||||||

Responsibilities | |||||||
| |||||||
Under the supervision of the Chief of the Branch, the incumbent’s responsibilities will be as follows: 1. Programme Development: • Setting key subject areas and priorities in the formulation of the work programme, the Medium Term Strategic and Institutional Plan (MTSIP) and related activities; • Designing implementation strategies for related elements of the work programme; • Negotiating with multilateral/bilateral donors for resource mobilization and coordinating joint activities of strategic importance. 2. Programme Implementation: • Ensuring cooperation with governments, the organizations/agencies of the UN system, the private sector, civil society organizations, academic society and research institutes; • Coordinating monitoring of project activities and progress ensuring periodic reporting from the field and providing assessment of the results achieved. 3. Programme Management: • Providing timely and appropriate technical and management advice on the projects through group meetings and training, and in-depth review and evaluation of the work plan, technical working papers and reports originating from the project; • Evaluating and making recommendations for recruitment of staff, ensuring implementation of proper budgeting and accounting procedures. 4. Advisory Services: • Assisting governments in conveying exchanges of policy makers and technical experts for conducive policy frameworks for financing and provision of sustainable urban transport and energy services; • Contributing to the implementation of MTSIP and the work programme by providing expertise and inputs in relation to urban transport and energy policy. 8. Education | |||||||
| |||||||
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in urban/regional planning, urban geography, engineering, public administration or related disciplines. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. | |||||||

Work Experience | |||||||
| |||||||
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience at national and international level, preferably in developing countries, in the areas of urban development, sustainable urban energy policy and urban transport provision or infrastructure design, management and policy. | |||||||

Languages | |||||||
| |||||||
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language will be an advantage. | |||||||

Evaluation of qualified candidates for this position may include a substantive assessment which will be followed by a competency-based interview. | |||||||
